Methotrexate is a chemotherapy drug that can also be used for abortion. The woman should be less than six weeks gestation by ultrasound. As far as I can tell, it is only given by injection, based on the woman's weight. Within a few days or weeks of receiving an injection of Methotrexate, the pregnancy ends through an experience similar to an early miscarriage.
As the medication takes effect, MTX interferes with folic acid and stops fetal cell duplication, and disrupts pregnancy at the stage of implantation in the uterine wall. When given early in pregnancy, it is effective in ending the pregnancy. (If a pregnancy were to continue after taking this drug, the fetus has a high risk of deformities.)
The "miscarriage" after the MTX injection occurs anywhere from two to six weeks later, when the uterus expels the fetus. Passing the tissue is unpredictable. It may occur any time, day or night, any place.

Methotrexate does come orally. Usually the oral preparation is used to treat rheumatoid arthritis.
If you are using Methotrexate to induce abortion or for ectopic pregnancy, you must take IM injection for it to be effective. Methotrexate is an antimetabolite. It inhibits folic acid, which is needed for cell production.

Metho is originally a cancer medication that has been prescribed to certain people who suffer from forms of arthritis. I believe there is a version of it that can be taken without injection. I have a friend who uses it for psoriatic arthritis. When she first started with it the only form was injectible, but that has changed over the years.

There are plenty number of brands are available for this composition in the tablet form. 1.ALLTREX 2.5mg 2.BIOTREXATE 2.5mg 3. NEOTREXATE 2.5mg etc., It is a broad spectram antineoplastic drug which acts as an antimetabolite of folic acid. It acts by inhibiting dihydrofolatye reductase, thus inhibiting DNA synthesis.
