Nitroglycerin may be the best-known liquid explosive. Though terrorists tested the explosive in the mid-1990s as part of a plot to bomb 11 airliners over the Pacific, several experts said it is relatively hard to get and very difficult to handle.

"If it freezes, it detonates. If it falls just two or three feet, it will detonate. It's so sensitive that it's not practical," Hanan said.

One of the explosives most commonly used by Middle East terrorists is triacetone triperoxide, or TATP, a highly potent explosive used by would-be "shoe bomber" Richard Reid. Usually found in the form of a crystalline powder, experts said TATP could be dissolved into a liquid that could be carried aboard a plane.

"Some terrorists have actually held TATP in water in order to reduce its sensitivity," Hanan said.

But terrorists could simply carry aboard a plane the two chemicals used to make TATP.

When the chemicals are mixed together, "chances are it will instantaneously and violently react," said Neal Langerman, a chemical industry consultant who acts as a spokesman for the American Chemical Society. "If it didn't, you can stick in a detonator, hook it up to the battery in your iPod, and you're dead."

These will be explosives which are in liquid form and can be triggered by electrical or chemical stimulation. The idea of the terrorists was to take the liquid probably having more than one liquid component into the aircraft cabin, go into the plane's toilet, mix the liquids and set them off by electrical stimulation from components derived from small electronic goods such as mobile phones or ipods etc.

I don't know I heard it on the news this morning. They said with simple household products.I'm from New York and have children. It's scary and I don't know why people can hate so much to do such a thing. What point are they going to get across when innocent lives will be lost. How can a person be taught or learn so much hate.I heard that they aren't even letting people bring water on the planes. That even the people who deliver water jugs were turned away at the airport. This world is becoming unsafe and wish that all this would stop.

More importantly is the fact that they are trying to destroy us by any means possible and we all need to take it seriously.

We are so compassionate toward the Lebanese but not for Israel and other Jewish lands nor for the people in our own country.

Blaming the U.S. government for such atrocities is only aiding and abetting our enemies and some people will not wake up until it hits them right at home. Sorry, too late.

they are two different checmicals, concentrated hydrogen peroxide and acetone. Basically finger nail polish remover and hair bleach. They could've blown up 10 airlines for $35 dollars of stuff. Very dangerous when combined, but almost harmless when solitary.

Maybe in the very near future they will make you strip nude in front of everyone and make you bend just in case you have something in your rectum or va...! Perhaps that is the final goal for big bro after all. Perverts. They will probably put it on camera and make a new show called 'big brother in the airport starring 'freedom of peoples rectum'

They were going to mix a gell with the British equivalent of Gatorade. Apparently that mixture will explode. They were going to detonate them with MP3 players.
