Doing the wrong exercise is as bad as not doing anything and nobody on this site is qualified to answer your question. There are a lot of people who are not high school grads and who haven't even lived as long as the specialists that would treat you, so you don't want to listen to people without the professional knowledge; it's dangerous to your knee. Ask you doctor about physical therapy and if she says no, ask to go to an orthopedic doctor for a second opinion. A bad knee injury can grow old with you and into arthritis, so ask for a second opinion.

If your doctor has examined you and then told you not to worry, maybe there is nothing to be worried anymore. Your doctor must have checked your knee for any internal derangement (of the cartilages and ligaments), fracture, or bleeding into the joint, which would have been readily obvious. However, do not get into doing exercises right away, and not until the pain and swelling has passed away. You may likely encounter some swelling around your knee cap (Patella) 10 to 12 hours later, which is the collection of synovial fluid consequent to trauma. Take rest and pain killers (NSAIDS) and support your knee with a crepe bandage until you can start walking well without pain or a limp.
Be careful while playing hockey as the injuries can be serious.

First off all, you may want to consider a new doctor. A knee that's suffered twisting and impact injuries.. is not nothing. =\
You might look into contacting a physical or sport injury therapist. They'll be able to figure out the stage of injury, as well determine if you need to go to a doctor or specialist for x-rays or certain testing. I wouldn't do any exercises or stretches until you figure out what's wrong.
If it's a recent injury ice can be helpful with pain and swelling.. stay away from heat (unless you're following it with cold), as it can increase the swelling and decrease range of motion.

Ow! That sounds painful!
You might want a different doctor: After all of that, I would expect something to be damaged, or at least stretched wrong.
I'm not going to try suggesting any exercises beyond what you probably do as part of your warm-up regimen. But perhaps massaging the knee and keeping a support bandage on it might prove beneficial?
Good luck!

at the instant you will have over strectched a muscle and now that's getting worse, even nevertheless it must be a case of over use. i be conscious of it sounds stupid, yet maximum the time whilst something is over used it the two breaks or swells. Your knees would have swelled with over use alongside with cycling or walking. i think of you will desire to drink milk, relax positioned your ft up and positioned some ice on them or something. Dont do too lots exercising in case you may help it and attempt to no longer walk or cycling long distance, even to college would be problematic because of the fact of hills! if that fails then circulate to a doctor, they be conscious of what's maximum suitable!

you buy ankles weights where you can decrease and increase the amount of weight. you put one on one of your ankles. then lay down on the bed on your back. you bend the knee without the weight and then you slowly lift the one with the weight on it until it reaches the top of the other knee and then lower it. keep doing that twice a day. 10 times each time. increase the weight every week.

What kind of tests did the doctor do? If you did not have an MRI, there could be an injury that she could not see. It is important that you find out for sure as more exercise could exacerbate an injury.
