I don't have it personally, but everyone I know says they love it and it's sooo awesome! They say it's completely worth it. I also think it's a collectors item. I would say to definately get it.

Get the regular iPod, the U2 is not worth the extra cash.
Also, as far as buying a cheap MP3 player, don't. The iPod has a lot of things going for it (album art, lyrics display, great UI, etc.). Also, it doesn't start deleting songs if you connect to a lot of different computers. If you buy your iPod from Circuit City or Best Buy, get the replacement plan for an extra $40. That way, when the battery starts going out after only 3 or 4 hours instead of the 8-10 it's supposed to last, they'll give you a new one.
What happens is, when you buy a song from iTunes, it comes with a fun little thing called DRM, which basically means you can't copy the song. If you connect the iPod to more than 5 different PCs, then you'll start having problems. If, however, you boycott the iTunes music store as I encourage all people to do, and get your music from your CDs and other DRM-free sources, then you'll never run into this problem.

U2 iPods are overrated. You pay all that extra cash to get a thirty minute U2 video and some mass produced signatures. You might as well just buy a black pod video, and sign it yourself. Unless you are a crazy U2 fan, then whatever. :)

dont get an ipod. they are not as good as an ordinary mp3 player. they look cool, but they have down sides.
they have built in copy right protections that delete songs when you hook them up to several computers and they are only rechargable. after the battery life is depleted, say after 18 months, you have to buy a new rechargable battery. what a rip. just get a cheap-o mp3 that takes a battery. you will be pleased about your decision. trust me.
