Go to Barnes and Nobles and buy the packet of CCNA books. Its about $60-100 depending on which store you get them at. If you buy a router and start working from the books in spare time you can go test out...Its not that hard if your interested in it...

It depends on what your purpose is, if you want just to pass the exam and get certified you could pull it off in around 1-2 months if you study hard and have a good memory, you should check these links:
http://www.ciscopress.com/bookstore/product.asp?isbn=1587201690&rl=1.
http://www.testking.com/CCNA-certification-training.htm
This path is not the best one in the long run though, even if you get certified you hands-on skills will be very poor and you won't be able to cope in a real network, there are many things that you can learn only if you work with the equipment. The best option is to go to a Cisco certified academy and attend classes and labs, build your skills with real equipment. The latter will take around 6 to 10 months ( 5-6 hours per week of training) but will give you an edge over people that only learn how to pass exams and not how to manage a real network. After you take your time with the classes and labs you can go for the certification, the books that i recommended are the official ones for the CCNA cert so it won't hurt you if you browse through them 1-2 weeks before the actual exam, anyway at that point you will be confortable with 99% of the content.

So to summarize:

1-2 months the bad way
6-10 months the good way.
3-4 months to physically receive your cert with the signature of the Cisco CEO.

I've been a network tech and a network manager for the last 22 years (like when PC LAN's were invented, yes). A friend of mine that I consider pretty smart has been studying daily for 5 months, including practice exams and a "boot camp" class, and he's failed the test 3 times. He tells me that the test is exceptionally hard unless you have daily, hands-on experience with Cisco equipment, especially routers. He has been working mostly on servers instead of the network gear, and it's made it darn hard to get his CCNA.

Course Objectives
Duration:4 days,Virtual Classroom
hours,Web Based Training
4 days,Classroom

After completing this course the student should be able to:

1. Create a simple, point-to-point network
2. Create a simple Ethernet network
3. Determine the most appropriate network topology for typical user requirements, list the issues related to shared LANs and the solutions that LAN technology provides, add a hub and a switch to expand an Ethernet LAN, and list ways in which LANs can be optimized.
4. Define how networks can be connected by routing protocols
5. Construct a topology and network addressing scheme with subnet mask computations, add a default gateway, and predict the behavior of traffic to on-network and off-network IP addresses
6. Compare UDP to TCP and explain the relationship of reliable data delivery to the TCP process and observe the functions of UDP and TCP in communicating with sites not on an Ethernet LAN
7. Define major WAN multiplexing and access technologies
8. List the components of an enterprise network, define its installation and testing processes and how these differ from the installation and testing processes of smaller networks, and complete and verify initial IOS software device configuration
9. Use Cisco IOS commands to accurately determine network operational status and performance; manage operating system image files to maintain an accessible operating system file; manage device configuration files to reduce device downtime; and execute adds, moves and changes

Course Content
In this course, students will learn fundamental computer networking terms, concepts, and components and apply them as they configure basic network connectivity via serial and LAN networks using PCs, a hub, router, and switch.

It depends on what type of snakes would be around. If it is non venomous snakes then I can last for 5 days maximum after which I will vomit. If it is venomous snakes, I will barely last 5 mins If it is sea snakes then I can stay with them in the pool for 3 days.
