I have heard a lot of bad thing about SOME (not all) modelling agencies and how they make you pay for photos and photo sessions before they take you on then never give you any work. Always check with the local Better Business Bureau in teh US or Trading Standards in the Uk or Similar organisation elsewhere.

NEVER GO ON YOUR OWN ALWAYS TAKE YOUR PARENTS!!!! BE VERY CAREFUL WHAT YOU SIGN!!!

I think a better starting place before you go to agencies is if you have a friend who is reasonable with a camera (do not have to be a professional or even that good just okay) Just take 100 photos of yourself in different poses, clothing and backgrounds then pick out 10-20 nice photos. You can then use this as a portfolio, and even better instead of printing them which cost you money every time, host them on a website and get some business cards print with the website address on and just hand these out instead. This is a far cheaper way of doing it and with no RISK. You should never have to pay to get a job if you do there is a high chance it is a scam.

However if you would like a personal portfolio site please contact me and I will set you on up for free. I can design you a fully personalised flash website with as much or little information and then host it for you. This site can contain a gallery of your photos, personal information, list of work, contact details, etc or if you prefer just a couple of photos and nothing else. It can be password protected and all images will be protected as is humanly possible, or the photos can be available to download.

Examples of work can be provided on request. Just message me here if you want, I am a professional website designer but have lots of free time (and enough money) so I am currently doing free sites for small bands, small artist etc, basically anyone who could not afford them otherwise. I have my own hosting server so can offer hosting servers or you can host the site yourselves. No images sent to me will be used for anything other than your site and I will not give anyone your detail or link to the site. You will have complete control and the site can be removed or changed at any time. This is not a scam and I will design a site for FREE, I do not need the money, and enjoy working. If you do want it message me you can tell me what you want and how you want it done and I will help.

I will need to speak to your parents and make sure that they know what is happening and agree with it before i do any work, sorry but it is a legal issue.

Your young and inexperienced, so your chances of getting a paying job in acting or modeling are pretty low right now. I would say start small. Try out for your school play this fall, or join a community theater. They will both give you experience and will not cost you anything. And if you don't get cast your first time, stick around and work backstage for the show. You will pick up lots of pointers by watching the other actors rehearse and take direction, plus people are more likely to cast someone who has shown a genuine intrest and has a good work ethic; so it would increase your chances at the next audition.
If you are going to a professional audition, take a parent and never sign anything without having them check it. As others have already said, there are plenty of "agencies" that are willing to take advantage of hopeful performers.
Most people who go into acting never go beyond the local level or make a living at it. However, you can have some great fun even if it is only a hobby, so go for it!

You'll never know unless you try! If you've never been on stage before you need to take the first step and just try. Also remember a couple of things, talent must be cultivated, there is not a single professional actress who just fell into the job she had to work at it and take classes (probably still does to keep herself sharp) and rejection is not the end of the world keep working and someone will recognize your talent. As far as doing anything professional acting or modeling be careful there are a lot of people out there that want to take advantage of a young girl. Otherwise follow your heart and you can do anything.

Go for it- but a few words of caution.

Many modeling agencies are frankly rip-offs. Open calls, promises of we'll get your name out- and they want $$ or a finders fee or simply sign up for our program- rip-offs.

Modeling and acting are very different prospects.

The old joke is how do you find a model in New York? "Call Waitress?"

Likewise for actors in California.

I turned down an acting scholorship many years ago because I wasn't good enough. The school thought I was but I knew at that point I was avarage to above average at best and would never make enough. I had leads in many shows, but I knew the realities. Of every 10,000 actors, about 2 make a living.
It's worse for models.

A friend of mine (not as an agent) has a contract with Ford's agency- he works several times a month and has been featured in several national ads still lives with his parents- is so screwed up in the head he acts like a 10 year old all too often and doesn't make that much money. (Also alcohol and drug addictions at 22.)

My suggestion- go acting. Models careers are a very short and quickly used up with a short shelf-life. I have many friends who are both. One friend was a Playmate- she lasted two years and was burned out and wasted. She was smart, good looking but was totally unprepared for getting chewed up and spit out.

Acting is a craft. It takes years to learn. No one is an instant success. Watch Bravo on cable- the Actor's studio. It gives you a realistic idea of the work invoved.

If you go- remember, if they want money- don't bother- it's a rip off. Legitamate agencies use established models.

One web site lwhere you pay a fee only if you accept a booking- meaning not a job but getting sent only to legitamate bookings where you have to do a cattle call and hope- costs usually more than you would earn with most of the the jobs.

Not to be too negative- but, it's actually easier to win a major Poker Tournement- 1-780, (after paying the $6,000.00 buy-in), than making it as a model- (defined as making more than minimum wage every week for more than six months,)
1-238,000, or an actor. 1-10,000.

The average income for a member of Actor's Equity- the main actors union, is $2,800 per year! And that's considering it includes virtually every actor- the average is raised by those who make 20-30 million per year.

A dream is always worth pursuing- but don't dream with your eyes shut, but with them wide-open!

Hope that helps.

Do what interests you. You don't need our opinions. If you see something you would like to audtion for - go for it. I'm 15 as well, and I've been involved in musicals, singing festivals, choirs etc. since I was 5. I have no idea if it will get me anywhere, but I just enjoy doing all of it now.

All right. First of all, if you haven't tried out for any school plays so far, start. You need experience, and if you don't have any, the business won't be kind to you. My advice is, start small, and if it starts to overwhelm you, repeat the cycle. Perform for a small audience. Get experience. Then, when you think you're ready, maybe try an audition. And whatever you do, don't get your hopes up. Remember, start small.
Break a leg!

Get training. Training cost alot of money... try Idyllwild Arts Academy, Interlochen Arts Academy, North Carolina school of the arts... something llike that. You are young... modeling also takes training. Plus, it is EXTREAMLY time consuming. Try acting, however if you are looking towards it as a career... think not. Unless you are serious, you will never make it. Try theatre or dance, not just film... if you are serious, feel free to contact me and I can help you find someplace to train. Its my job.

Only you can answer that question. Only you know the drive (or lack of it) that keeps telling you to go do it. You can listen to the voice that says get "out there and act, it's where you belong", or you can listen to the voice that says "Who the hell are you kidding? You can't act"....

Which voice are you listening to? Which voice do you want to listen to? Which voice do you want to tell to shut the hell up?

Well it depends. If you know that you always wanted to acted, then auditioning could be your started. It lets you preview the acting career and see if its something that you really want to do. Good luck.
