Yes, I am almost 14 and just started shaving. Facial hair was growing on my chin and my upper lip. It was getting darker, so I shaved it.

Shaving, does not make facial hair grow faster, but it tends to convert your facial hair into a "blunt" like form, which appears to make your hair darker. Nothing wrong with that if you keep shaving once you see the hair grow back -- especially if you have a peachy color, it won't realy be noticable.

I think he shoould, if you really think it's time. I would suggest a guillette, I guess. I am using Guillette Fusion and I like it a lot, so I would recommend it (the manual one). Try buying shaving cream with a mouisterizer because if you shave the first time, you sort of have a rashy feeling for a couple of hours. Then, after that, he should be fine. Also, if he does shave, he should shave with the grain, and not against it. This means, that whichever direction your hair is growing, shave that way. (which is usually from up to down).

Yes, do have him start shaving now. It is scientifically proven that it will not grow faster if you shave it. For teen boys, especially blondes, the stubble usually will not become darker for quite a while. He may want to already and might just have trouble asking you. Here are a few shaving tips for a teenage boy. I highly recommend the Proactiv.

Any blue links in this message will take you to a place where you can view or purchase the products I talk about. I am not trying to advertise these products. I am just telling you what I use.
Use a Gillette Fusion Razor (not the power one). I like this razor a lot because it gives you a very close shave with only one stroke. Before shaving, exfoliate (remove dead skin cells). You can find these exfoliating scrubs in almost every drugstore. Or if you want to pay a little more for complete facial care (including acne), purchase a product called Proactiv (www.proactiv.com). It worked really well for me and it includes an exfoliating scrub. Many famous people use proactiv. Exfoliating before shaving greatly reduces the risk of bumps or ingrown hairs. After shaving use an oil and fragrance free moisturizer so you don't clot your pores (also included in Proactiv).

First of all, the hair doesn't grow back thicker. Its just that shaving causes the hair to be cut off at the thicker end of the hair, therefore it appears to be thicker. Now as for the darker part, that is something you won't be able to avoid either way. Give it a year or 2 and it will be darker. But for now if it will probably stay light. Good Luck!

I'm going along with StarGazer. That is true, it cuts the hairs blunt. But did you ever realize that hair over time and as a person matures gets darker and thicker? Most guys I know don't shave their legs, but look at them. The hair is dark, thick and coarse. Shaving does not make hair grow back thicker and darker. It's just the aging process.

Have him shave when his hair starts darkening in color, when it's more noticable. Because right now, he has no need to shave it.

Peach fuzz only? No need to start shaving...wait a year or two...
Once he wants to start shaving, or it becomes just unsightly, then it's time to start shaving. Just go to a local Target, and get a razor for 25 or 30 bucks. As a teen, there's no need for a really high-quality razor.

When you start seeing thicker, though not necessarily darker (he is blonde, after all) amid the peach fuzz, it's time to start.
