You want money. You have to go to where the money is.Don't bother trying to drum up business in "average" neighborhoods.Stay away from the areas with the 1/4 acre lots (unless they have a high number of elderly residents!).Go to the rich neighborhoods. Not the ones with the big houses sitting on little lots.Go to the 'hoods that have the houses that sit on HUGE land.
You're also going to have to look professional.DON'T knock on doors. You'll either get no answer,or the maid,or, if you do get the owner, their probably not going to be happy about being bothered when they're trying to relax. Most people that make that kind of money work very hard, and don't get much time off.
You need to put fliers in mailboxes.Print up something nice on your computer.Something NICE.Don't even try passing out hand written stuff.Make it look professional.Try putting a nice photo on the flier.
Keep in mind these people have money because they're SMART about money. They might have lots of questions before they give you their business.Be ready to answer them. What kind of equipment do you have? Do you charge for the whole season,or do you charge per visit? Are you bonded and insured?
Good luck to ya!

Most well manicured lawns already have a maintenance person, or they do it themselves. Prepare a flyer, and go door to door, especially where the lawns are scraggly, but not low-income areas, because they won't pay for a service.
Either hang the flyer on doors, or knock, and introduce yourself.
Advertise in local papers as well. Many towns have their own journals that you can advertise in.

Spend 1 day going door to door in an area that you would be comfortable with. The trick is to dress with a suit and tie...Yes, I'm not kidding...it works. Did you hear the story of the nine year old boy who was selling kool aid on the street. He wasn't doing very good so his mother told him to dress up in a suit and tie.....The little kid made a bunch of money. So try it just for one day, you will get some business. Oh yes, when they answer the door don' t forget to smile.....

Get a couple of lawns from friends. Do them on a reduced rate if needed. Do a fantastic job on the lawns you have. You will not have to look for more lawns if you do this. They will find you.

I have had a couple of lawncare businesses and have been in the green industry for 20+ years. The best way is word of mouth. Advertising helps but this is something I never did. If you do a good job for someone, they end up telling their friends.

start with a few people you know and do a good job and then use them as a reference... Word of mouth goes a long way. People wont just hire anyone to do lawn work. They must take pride in it.

Fliers. Go to Kinkos and get a bunch printed up. Start passing them out door to door.

Advertise! Flyers in mailboxes, word of mouth, emails, bill boards, posts in the newspaper.
