I've seen quite a lot of anime series', and most of them I just adore. If you're asking for suggestions, these are at the top of my list:

Gundam Wing-a long time favorite of mine. I know too many people say it's over rated, but I think the story is great.

Yu Yu Hakusho held my interest and made me cheer, and sometimes cry, from the very beginning. If you like your brutality pure and simple, YYH is a must see.

Chrono Crusade-It has quite a bit of comedy and silly-ness, mostly in the first 3 or so dvds, and then it turns dark and somewhat gothic toward the end. Overall CC is a fantastic show, and the animation is pretty spectacular, imo.

Lunar Legend Tsukihime-blood, violence, mystery, romance, and definitely gothic. I'd suggest this to a fairly mature audience though. LLT is only 12 (or 14 episodes, I don't remember offhand), but it has a great story and a nice ending despite the shortness of it.

Spiral-I think it just didn't get enough credit from anime fans in general. Spiral is total mystery. There's not too much action, but there is a nice, generous sprinkling of suspense. It's kind of slow throughout the entire series, but patience definitely pays off...even though the ending isn't at all what you want it to be.

And of course there's always Cowboy Bebop and Trigun. I've always loved those two. I even watched the reruns.

Last but not least, Lupin the 3rd. It's actually a fairly long series. I'm still watching it. I'm just about in the middle of the series, and I just think its wonderful. Definitely funny, intriquing, suspenseful, and exciting, and almost never serious. The movies are great also. Some even better than the series.

Hope that helps with your deciscion. ^_^

Ghost in the Shell Stand Alone Complex (Gig 1).

Loved the music, especially Inner Universe (opening theme) and Stamina Rose.

Captivating episodes: The Laughing Man is the basis of the series and is a great political thriller. But some of the episodes, covering the "everyday" cases of Section 9 were great. Testation (epiosode 2) is great..I found it touching. And some of the episodes are quite thought provoking.

Great animation: Enough said!

Overall, a thoroughly enjoyable anime. And it has some funny parts in it too!

My vote is for Cowboy Bebop, Dragon Ball, and Dragon Ball Z.

Cowboy Bebop has amazing artwork, great story lines, likable characters and good music (for the most part). I also like the premise of the crew being "space cowboys".

Dragon Ball is really "cute", has child like witty jokes and good characters. The story lines are pretty good, too. They aren't too involved so you can usually figure out what's going on while watching your first episode. It's a lot less serious than Dragon Ball Z and in my opinion more fun to watch.

Dragon Ball Z does have good story lines but if you miss episodes it can be hard to figure what's going on. It's fun to see all your favorite Dragon Ball characters all grown up and responsible. The villains and fights are more intense.

I have many
Bleach- its about a boy taht can see ghosts and one day a hollow (evil ghost that eat human souls) comes and attacks him cause he has a lot of spiritual power, and a soul reaper and or Shinagami comes and gets hurt trying to save him and he takes her Zanpaktu(soul cutter, its a soul reapers weapon a katana) and pierces himself in the heart to become a soul reaper, hes got a giant Zanpaktu, the more spirit power the larger ones Zanpaktu is)
Full Metal Panic-This is the best anime in the world, thats what i think, once you watch one episode you get hooked and cant stop watching it. Its a mecha anime, teh mech is called ArmSlave, AS for short and its about a anti-terroist group called Mithril and its set sometime after the coldwar. The Whispered are people who have have things whispered to them, such as math eqations and AS facts, and know the secrets of the Black Technology, which can create a weapon that makes Nukes seem like toys, its called the Lambda Driver, anything the pilot concentrates on in an AS with the Lambda Driver will apear, such as a shield or a powerful blast of force, the pilot needs a lot of concentration and the system as of now in the anime is faulty and can break down. Kaname Chidori (age 16) is a Whispered and Mithril sends a soldier to gaurd her, and taht soldier is Sousuke Sagara, he pilots the Arbalest, an As with the Lambda Driver, Mithril's only AS with the Lambda Driver. Sousuke has to be a highschool student to proctect Kaname, so parts..err a lot of the anime is about them in school and thats the comdey part. Sousuke is a gun manaic, just to let you know.
Full Metal Panic Fumoffu (this is all comedy and not realy the sequel)
Full Metal Panic the second raid (This is the sequel)
Hunter x Hunter, although this anime is only in jap, its really really good. its about a boy named Gon, who takes the hunter exam to become a hunter to find his dad, its all about him and his friends and their trials, his friends are Killua, Kurapica, and Leorio. They all have special powers. Killua is an assassin, Kurapica is from a clan that was wiped out and is hunting them down, and Leorio is a doctor even though he doesnt look like one.
Hellsing, this is about vampires, i no its oldm but this anime takes an old idea and makes it new, its about a family of vampire hunters called Hellsing and their per Vampire Alucard, which is Dracula spelled backwatds, he is the hellsings perfected creation, the true nosferatu, i think hes unkillable.
Eureka Seven, this is a mecha anime, its really good, although youtube jumps around with this anime. Its about a world that has trapar, its particles in teh air that allows humans to surf in teh air with special boards and the mechas are called LFOs.

Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex

Not only is Ghost in the Shell challenging for the mind, but it has plenty of in-depth characters that you can't help but love. The fighting scenes are always fantastic, and the main character (the Major) is a kick-a$$ female. What more could you ask for???
