Do you remember the state of the country under labour before Lady Thatcher became Prime Minister. The country was in near anarchy and poverty stricken caused by a weak Labour Party allowing the militant unions a free hand. Cancer patients weren't being allowed into hospital because of striking militants, relatives of the dead were having to dig their loved ones burial plots for the same reason, rubbish was left to pile high in the streets for the same reason. I had to carry a torch to work so that I could find my way home as the electrictiy board people were on strike, if a supervisor swore at a car worker they all went out on strike (ever wondered where our car industry went to?), miners were earning so much that they could afford private education for their children but still they went on strike for more. In short, nearly the whole country was on strike because the militants fomented unrest and manipulated and frightened the average worker. The Iron Lady was the only one with the guts to take them on - and thank God she won. The country regained some semblance of normality. She (like Blair) was in office for too long, and then began to do things that were very unpopular and damaging to the country like signing us up even deeper into the EU, selling off council houses (popular but now where do all the low paid workers live?) and the poll tax (again most people were against it. About this time I was widdowed with 4 young children. Under the old system, my rates stayed the same even though we had lost the bread winner, under the poll tax they went down to nearly nothing - so I was for it) She had the guts to regain a group of islands populated by British, who wished to remain British and not be invaded by Argentinians. So all in all
LONG LIVE THE IRON LADY - do you remember what was said at the time when she was given this nickname - BETTER AN IRON LADY THAN A PLASTIC MAN. I would love her to be well enough to take on this mad man Blair. She would wipe the floor with him.

There was a debate on the radio today - "Should margaret thatcher be given a state funeral" I got really excited - I thought she had finally gone - then I found out it was just hypothetical. I decided that she should have a state funeral - this week! if we have to wait for her to die - then NO.
I like your sentiments about dancing on her grave - Have you heard the elvis cosrtello track - I think it is called tramp the earth down - it is about wanting to live until Thatcher dies - so you can dance on her grave!

do any of you thatcher hater remember the state this country was in with the union power which she calmed down. lots of things i didnt like her for like closing all the mines but scargill must take a lot of blame for that, car industry she should have left alone now we have nothing but the workers weren't blamless but all in all, state funeral, NO! lets get real they cannot emulate churchill i had no objection and still feel like that now a great war leader and we were fighting for our very existence without his volumous speeches which spurred us on, i wonder where we all be, the state funeral was right and proper in my opinion but people might just wonder why royalty have state funerals.

She was the only politician I know, that when she said something you knew it was gonna happen. I didn't trust any before and haven't trusted any since. Yes, I think she deserves a state funeral - she made mistakes but she did her best. God bless her.

Gotta luv her... one of two women with real balls. The other was Jeanne Kirkpatrick, former US Ambassador to the UN under Reagan.
