Is there a clever way to ask for someone's name if you forgot it?

Question

I don't want to just come right out and say- "Umm, I forgot your name, what is it again?" I dont want to make someone feel unimportant- but I'm not good with names!

Ok- why do people answer questions simply to be rude?

If you are with someone else have them introduce themselves to this person like for example if I was with you and we ran into this person I would say Hi I am Dan and they would be forced into a situation to give there name up while you where there when they would say I'm __________

Have them put their name and number in your phone if its someone you would actually want to hang out with. Say we should swap numbers and then hand them your phone so they can put it in and save it.

Or hang around and wait for a friend to call them by their name.

I guess if those still aren't going to work, you are just going to have to come out and say it. It happens to everyone, just say you are really bad with names. Make a little joke about forgetting your head if it wasn't screwed on... or something to lighten the situation. Good luck!

Funny story. I had a close acquaintance with which I would chat with in classes, yet I never knew her name and didn't want to look snobby, so I asked her for her phone number.

I gave her a piece of paper, and I said "can you write me your phone number and e-mail address just in case I need to ask you questions on the course material" and on the paper I had another friend's name and number...so she put her name down too...too bad it was so hard to pronounce...oh well..

have someone you are with that has never met no name stick out their hand to shake and state their name and see if no name responds w/ a name
