Some do. It is undeniable that some use the "bisexual" label on the way to gay because at least they will be "half-straight." When they stop internalizing society's homophobia and drop the nonsense, this goes away. Actual bisexuals really get pressure from both sides, must suck to be them. But as usual, as anyone can see, the root of the problem is the cancerous society of hypocrisy, dishonesty, and repression that straight people have created based mostly on religion and the fragile male heterosexual ego. Without this, people would just be gay without having to go through some big dramatic process of self-acceptance and discovery and all that other lifetime movie of the week stuff.

Well...speaking from a bisexual's point of view...Yes...sometimes. Sometimes it makes coming out to certain people a little easier. However some people do overuse it which tarnishes actual 'bisexuals'. Not only do we get scrutinized by straight people..but we also get some gays/lesbians who think we're all just into lables/fads and that being truly Bi doesn't really exist! The gay and lesbian society should be more accepting to the fact that there are not only 2 extremes in the spectrum but everything in between!

Darryl, there are definitely people like that, wanting to live under the bisexual label for a while because it seems a little more acceptable than the gay label. Having said that though, bisexuality is an orientation in of itself. People who are bi know they are attracted to both sexes pretty early in their adolescence and most accept the bisexual label (at least privately) by their mid-twenties. I sometimes think gay people have a difficult time accepting bisexuality because so many bisexuals have partners in the gay community -- and the gays think they are hiding out with them. I personally believe that to a certain extent, most people are bisexual, especially men.

I think there may be some that claim to be bisexual that are really gay to avoid the 'stigma' that seems to accompany being gay. But since most people seem to consider anyone that is not strictly heterosexual as being gay anyway, I am not sure that there are many that do this. I do believe for the most part that bisexuality is legitimate - not just some wishy-washy excuse to avoid taking on a more limiting 'label'.
Bisexual orientation includes all the territory between the two extremes of homosexuality and heterosexuality. Bisexual people are not necessarily attracted equally to both genders, and may even to prefer one or the other. Homosexuality and heterosexuality are two monosexual orientations, whereas bisexuality encompasses them both.
Personally I think that we are all bisexual to some degree or another. We may have primary sexual preferences or identify as heterosexual or homosexual, but still have some level of sexual attraction outside of our self defined preferences. A woman who is primarily attracted to other women, may identify as a lesbian, but still have some sexual attraction to men, and visa verse. Some men identify as heterosexual because the only sexual activities they engage in with other men do not involve the giving oral sex to men or involve being the bottom in anal sex with men.

Nah the last thing most parents or loved ones want to hear is you sleep with the same sex but that's their problem. I like to say too mfrench3691 what I have said before to people who don't know better, put a Gay man in front of naked women and he will help her get dressed and take her shopping but put a Bi male in front of the same naked women and he will go to town on her. I hope you can tell the difference now :)..... If they don't like both sex's they are not Bi then..

In someways it seems that way. I don't think that I would say that I was Bi if I wasn't attracted to women also. I think if you ask some Bi people, you would find that some are more attracted to the same sex while others prefer the opposite. I think those who say they are Bi and eventually say Gay are those who have always been more attracted to same sex and they eventually they no longer feel anything for the opposite.

I'm sure some do, but not all of them. I know because I played the bi card for 4 years before admitting I was gay.
But it's not true for all bisexuals. I know plenty of bi girls and guys who really are bi-they like both men and women, some prefer one over the other and some do not.

I went through a bi period as part of coming out as a lesbian. I was more comfortable with the idea of being bi than being gay. Once I got used to the idea of being bi (and suffered no serious consequences) I found it easier to admit that I just wasn't attracted to men, ever. I don't want to imply this is true for everyone, it's just what happened with me.

I am BI because I like sex with MEN AND WOMEN, not to make anything seem "less bad"
Bi's are bi because they can have a relationship with either a man or a woman.
A gay only has relations with a member of the same sex and a bi as relations with both sexes.
Does this help you?

When they first come out yes. Most people are usually gay or straight. But some people are genuinely bi. If you are speaking with some one that is has been up at bat a few times and who is comfortable about what and who they are then I would take their word for it. If someone is just coming out I would take a wait and see approach because they are dealing with over coming social stereotypes and learning about what they like. No one is born with an instruction book on their body. We don't know what we prefer unless we have had sufficient time and education to make an informed decision.
