It all satarted 5 nights ago, I woke up because there were these peircing pains in my lower back. I had about three stabs of pain, that last about 30 seconds each time. Nothing happened after that. Then on and off I have been having contractions, I assume they are just painful braxton hicks. They are not all regular, they sometimes start in my back and shoot all the way to the front and kind of explode acoss my stomach. Pretty painfull. Sometimes it even makes me sick to my stomach. It will happen a couple of times and then go away completly. Other times, my contractions are just like stabbing pains in my uterus, and I also had pains that feel like they are coming from my cervix? I don't know, I am 36 1/2 wks preg, and am waiting for my doc. appt that is tomorrow morning I havn't gone yet is b/c my contractions aren't regular. I mean I'll have 4-5 in an hour and then nothing but BH contractions for a while. Plz help! Will this go on for the next couple of weeks or am I close?

Your baby is moving into the "birthing position" & the larger it gets, the less room it has to move around. The less room, the MORE you will feel every movement this baby makes inside your body. Don't sleep on your back because the weight of the baby will cause your organs to be crushed by the weight of the baby. This cuts off the bloodflow & the baby moves even more &you get more uncomfortable too. Use more pillows & sleep on you side with the pillows tucked under your belly for support & use one between your legs to keep the flow of bllod in your arteries & veins flowing with the least amout of restriction. Some women can only sleep in a sitting position, while others need to have their legs up at the same time! If you have a bathtub, take a warm bath & relax & you'll find that the pain will lessen & the baby will calm down. I used to get on my hands & knees when the pain was unbearable & this would alleviate the pressure from the fetus on my internal organs. Start paying attention to your diet & eat lighter meals, as your digestive organs no longer have room to handle large amounts of food comfortably inside your body. Don't worry, this IS normal. You should be having a LEO child in the next week or two! YOU MAY HAVE TO WAIT LONGER, SO BE PATIENT!

Okay, first of all if these pains are starting in the lower back and moving around...they could be real. Or the pain could be from the baby moving into position. You really should go to the hospital I would not wait until tomorrow. It's better to be safe than sorry. GOOD LUCK

Honey I'm gonna say get your bag packed. It is very normal for women to have contractions before actually giving birth or going into labor. They call this false labor. If you can't wait then go ahead to the hospital. 36 1/2 weeks is awful close. Good luck and God Bless

You are close enough to full term that if you go into labor they probably will let the baby come. Braxton Hicks are still contractions and they are doing something--effacement, dilation, getting baby acclamated. It could be very soon.

I feel for you...I had these contraction ongoing since 5 months.....They all do assist the the labour and delivery process though....my first was 3 hours labour and 2 hours pushing.....my second child....18 minutes!. With both pregnancies, I had the contractions since 5 months.

Good luck to you.

I didn't have a normal period till my daughter was almost 3 months old. I bled (with varying colors and intensities) for about a month after birth. You're probably just stirring up birth blood by having sex. It seems a bit soon for you to be having your period..

With my first son I went to the hospital 7 times for the same thing you are experiencing thinking I was in labor. (I was terrified of not getting my epidural in time) Tomorrow your doctor will tell you if you are softening up or not. With so many BH its hard for you to tell if you are close or not. I can't tell you when you will go into active labor but when it happens you will not be able to smile, walk, or concentrate. You will cry and scream...that's when you go to the Hospital. Good Luck.

It sounds like braxton hicks to me. They can be pretty painful too. Just keep timing them. Its really hard to say if you are close because sometimes you can have these for weeks. Your doctor will tell you if you are dialated any. Good luck!

vary from person to person. It could be close. Depends on how fast you can dilate. Some women can have weeks of contractions and won't dilate; yet some dilates with your description. So go to your doc, he'll check your cervix.
