There may very well be rapid development in Cuba on a grand scale. Cuba used to be an island resort- and I wont be surprised if many casino and hotel companies have its eye there. There will be a massive import of cigars to the US as well as other certain crops. I think Cuba will only get better with the change of leadership/power.

Fidel Castro will leave Cuba in a terrible political and economic mess, just as Mao Zedong left China when he died in 1976, and Castro’s successors will be sorely taxed just to retain power. If post-Fidel governments are to remain authoritarian for some years, their political or military leaders, or both, will need to understand that although the Cuban people put up with abject poverty under Fidel, they will not long tolerate such conditions under any other leader. This poses a daunting challenge to future leaders because on the one hand they will have to undertake substantive reforms to simply retain power; on the other hand, the opening process itself may create so many demands that the new leadership will be overwhelmed. Still, in one form or another, authoritarianism has the edge over democracy for the immediate post-Fidel period.

Nothing at the moment... Fidel is still el presidente.
My hope in that in the future Cuba will become the number one vacation spot in the world and we will be friends. It was corrupt under Batista and believe it or not Fidel was once a household word.. a hero in fatigues sporting a beard,...extremely charming very handsome. He may be the longest living dictator but a most educated one. His buddy Chavez of Venezula is democratically elected. Cuba being an island must import what they need...Chavez will provide no doubt. I believe that if any nonsense starts it will originate out of Miami.

I am old enough to remember when it was only the well off Cubans who fled. I am hoping for a smooth transition when that day comes. We could do that now if we really wanted to but they'd be a lot of noise out of Miami and Jeb adn Dubya ain't ready to tackle with that volitile bunch. But that's just my opinion......

if castro dies his brother will become president permenently and will promote some changes to westernize cuba in some ways. However these changes wont be huge and wont be fast .Cuba is still a dictatorship and ruled with an iron thumb. A dictator isnt going to willingly or easily give up all that power. Cuba wont truelly see reform and possibly democracy untill the castros are gone or the people revolt.

The loss of Fidel will change Cuba - finally.
His rule is a cult of personality. I seriously doubt Raul has it.

Cuba is only one hour away by boat from Florida. It is a little scary to allow a country that really wants to be part of the US and have democracy fall into the hands of a unknown regime.

Nothing special. Fidel Castro may recover. Otherwise there is his brother and there are others.

Don't buy all the negative propaganda on life in Cuba. They have higher literacy rate than in our country. For small country with very limited natural resources and not getting US Foreign aid they seem to get by.

They have a large oil patch off the coast of Cuba.

It would make good sense to invade them so we could get that oil. Some Cubans would like that.
