Click on Tools and select Internet Options. Under General tab, at the Address section type in the name of the new homepage eg. http://www.aol.com and
click OK. This should change your default homepage to AOL when you open your browser.

Your home page is the page that appears every time you open Internet Explorer. Choose a page that you want to view frequently, or one that you can customize to get quick access to all the information you want, such as the msn.com home page.
1. Go to the page you want to appear when you start Internet Explorer.
2. On the Tools menu, click Internet Options.
3. Click the General tab.
4. Under Home page, click Use Current.
Note
To restore your original home page, click Use Default.

The tools> internet options will only work if your browser is Internet Explorer, but if there's other browser as Opera, it won't.
So the best way is to--------
Go to Control Panel> Click on internet options> replace the name of the Home Page & Click OK.

open your internet explorer,
goto tools>internet options, in there there is a field for homepage, edit that field for example if you want www.google.com as your homepage, put in http://www.google.com and click apply.
there is another method.
open internet explorer and open the website you want to set as your homepage.
now goto tools>internet options and click on use current and press OK
