I think the first thing you should do is try to get over your fear of rejection. This is probably the hardest thing that guys have to do when they want to start talking to girls. Just remind yourself that it's ok if a girl isn't interested and rejects you. It's going to happen a lot. Also, remember that girls can be shy too. We're humans just like guys. Don't have such high expectations when you first talk to a girl, because you will be disappointed immediately.

As far as actually talking to a girl, make the first encounter very casual. A good way to do this is to ask her a question. For example: "Excuse me, do you have the time?" or "Do you have a pen?" Just make sure you leave it on neutral ground. The best questions are the ones that allow you to linger a little bit so you can strike up a conversation. Find something you have in common and take it from there.

If it helps, try it out first on girls that you're not very interested in for practice. There's no harm in talking, but it will help you relax. Once you have more confidence, talk to the girl that you like. A lot of girls like confidence in a guy. Make sure you keep your head facing forward and speak clearly (don't look at your feet and mumble!). Maybe you can take a few pointers from some guy friends and take their lead. Don't do it alone! Get over being shy theres absolutely nothing wrong with U, ur most likely hotter than the person shes currently dating, so just walk up to her and say hi you got my attention and i'll just like 2 know U , and besides if u like her and just want to be friends she should appreciate that, if she doesnt then shes not worth the time.
