My father in laws PC is causing a problem at the moment. He was happily on dial up and when he upgraded to Broadband the problems started. The line has been checked, there was a problem but has now be rectivifed. However the problem is whenever the internet is connected or we try and get emails from outlook express, within one minute the computer shuts down and restarts. This was not happening with dial up only since tiscali broadband was installed. We have uninstalled it and started again with the whole process but still the same problem. Does anyone know how to resolve this?

I don't know sorry, but i'm also with tiscali. Have you tried asking on the tiscali forums? They seem to be quite helpful and i'm sure they would be able to help you there.

Hope you get it sorted, that would drive me insane!

This looks like a hardware or the drivers that is the cause of your problem. In order to properly isolate the problem, follow the following steps.

Make sure the computer is turned off completely. Open the computer and remove the "dial up" modem card AND the "network adapter card" from the PC (don't close the computer case yet). Also, delete any software or programs associated with the DIAL UP modem.

Reboot the computer and turn it off again. Now, re-install ONLY the network adapter card back in and turn on the computer. Assuming that you're using WinXP, it should auto detect the network card and install the drivers for it. But f it ask for the drivers, then do you have the driver CD disc for it?? Make sure that all the cable wires correctly connected to Broadband modem and the computer. Power up everything and let WinXP does its things. Wait about a minute or two until the network settings and connections is finished and try the Outlook express. If everything is fine, then close the case.

Cheers!

Normally when PCs shut down it is a Hardware problem, it my be worth check that all the cards inside the PC are seated properly check that the CPU fan is working and the RAM is fitted correctly. You may not have ever opened the computer but you may have dislodge something when plugging in the broadband cables, if you have more than 1 strip of Ram try remove one strip at a time and rebooting just to check the RAM. Hope this helps

Did you remove any old modems ( in control panel ) before installing the adsl one? as this problem can occur if that has not been done, also any old ISP software should go,also its a good idea to run a disk check and defrag before installation, also try running the modem doctor on the Tiscali install cd.
