saying goodbye..."you people"? I wonder why "us people" are so sensitive when people make ignorant statements like yours.

i think it's an everybody thing. My friends call be J, J.J., or Jage. My family calls me Gordo. And i think i have a few more but i can't remember 'em.

The tendancy for nicknames isn't a racial thing. It a more unique way of identifying yourself. Many names are common, so other people give nicknames to make you more of an individual.

Funny...we all want to be unique and an individual, but we can't STAND being alone...

I would say definitely a social thing and also a sign of affection. It lets me know my friends and fam are comfortable around me and when they use my nickname I can guage their moods. Like for example, when my grandma would call me by my nickname(Bug by the way) I knew she was in a good mood. But if she called me by my full name(first, middle and last) I knew I was in for it. No one owns the concept of giving nicknames. It's just what people do to show their love for each other. Or if your name is long or difficult to pronounce it saves you the trouble of constantly having to correct people. Now that's annoying!

My nickname, since I can remember, has been Kiki. My little brother gave me that name because he could not pronounce my name. Almost everyone I know personally now calls me Kiki. And I like it. Categorizing events (black thing) is very ignorant.
