If it's a custom build and I'm not a manufacture, then I can only have 1 a lifetime and not sell it for 5 years. I was hoping to get a vin or whatever is needed so it's like OCC choppers or someone built it and it can be sold whenever, and I can build another if I want. I haven't registered it yet or anything.

Depending on the state you want to register the bike, you will need to talk to the DMV. Tell them what you said in you first two lines of your question. If you start telling them any more, they get confused. They will probably refer you with paperwork to the Highway Patrol for a stamped tag. Highway Patrol usually uses an acid base fluid on your frame so try to get everything registered before you get your powdercoat or paint job.

If you have an mso on the frame that's all you'll need to present. You'll probably have to apply to your state's DMV or Dept of Safety for a state issued vin. They will probably want to inspect the vehicle to make sure it complies with the laws. They then will give you a vin plate to permanently attach. I've seen it done with enduro type dirt motorcycles.

While you can only build one custom bike per lifetime you can own an unlimited amount of modified motorcycles. So if you have an old cycle with a title and vin you could modify that enough to look like the custom motorcycle you are building. You'd have to make sure to keep the vin # stamped part correct and destroy any other vin #s (like on an engine) so no one else could try to register/title a motorcycle with that number. Wink, Wink, Nudge, Nudge; get my drift???

Try also checking into how custom hot rod or kit car builders go about getting titles. There should be bunches of info from them...

In California, one goes to DMV files an application for a VIN then is directed to the Highway Patrol for an inspection ,after approval then issued a VIN. I would imagine the process must be the same or similar state to state.

you willl have to go apply for a title. You usually need all receipts from all your parts, and then they tax you on your value. Most states do a inspection and issue a vin number after. Call motor vehicles in your state and they will tell you what you need ! Look up your DMV for your state and how to title and that will answer your question .

if you are in the United States take it over the state line to another easier jurestiction and have it registered there.
if you are in Canada you just get your paper work to-gether and jump through the hoops.
If you dont live in either of these countrys,,i am sorry i cant help you.
