I just got motivated after attending one and seeing stuff that was not as good as mine.(I also saw some amazing stuff!). I entered an ink and ink wash drawing in a show for next month but this is the first time I've done it. It's a juried show and the art work will be for sale. What has you're experience been like. Good?Bad?Did you sell anything? Did you get any feedback?

I have been in a few community art show in the past and I have up coming ones as well. These show are really ment to get your name and work style out ther to the public more then selling work, but if the people in the community like your work then it has a good chance in selling, but go in not exspecting to sell anything, People mostly like to just go and look at work other then buy it you may not sell anything, but it will get you more known in the community and that can help some times more then the show.

I did when I was little. Of course I didn't sell anything, but my mom and my aunt did! My mom even got her art shown in windows downtown and in a bank!

Go for it! Depending on who actually goes and sees your stuff, you could make a killing...or a flop. Who knows? The point is, community art shows are good experience, no matter what happens. And if nothing else, someone could come along and not want the art you've already done...but rather your style of art drawing something else!

Plus it's really fun to see your work hanging up there for all to see. ;) Good luck!

I entered a juried student show at my school. It went pretty well--didn't sell anything, but I didn't want to. I was kind of irked about how they handled my stuff though--I had a picture frame get scratched pretty bad and somebody got this nasty smudge in the back of one of my handmade earrings. Oh, and they screwed up my labels and made it look like someone else made one of my pieces (We--the other girl and I--fixed it right away). It's really a mixed bag. Still, juried shows are great for an artist's resume.

I entered a community art show but I don't know if it's worth mentioning. It was a middle school/ high school art show at the public library. :) I did it last year and this year (my junior and senior year). Last year I got a rather disappointing honorable mention for an acrylic painting I did of Josh Groban's Closer album. This year I won first place for an oil painting I did from a photo I took in California that I titled "The Mission of San Juan Capistrano." A lot of people voted for mine as their favorite and I got a little prize. I also got an honorable mention this year for a pencil drawing I did from a photo I took of a little girl in Juarez, Mexico while on a mission trip that I titled "Can You Hear the Prayer of the Children?" It was cool to have my artwork displayed and appreciated. Even if you don't win, it's cool. This art show wasn't one where they sold the artwork since it is student work and I guess a lot of it is...well, student work. Anyway, I liked it.
