My doors are about a year old, as is the hardware. My question, I need to change the keying on each door, can I just replace that or do I need to replace the whole door knob?

Depends on the cost of the original handset/lock. Some are very cheap both in material and cost.
Almost any lock can be re-keyed or have a new key cylinder put in it, the question should be - Is it worth while, cost wise, for this type of lock.
If it is a lower quality lock buy a new a handsets/locks. They are also available in keyed alike sets (2 or more handsets).

It depends. Many door locks can be re-keyed by changing the pins in the cylinder (tumbler.)

The company below makes kits for Kwikset, Weiser, Defiant, EZ Set, Weslock and Schlage locks. I've used their products many times. The new Schlage locks are difficult to disassemble - I'm not sure they can be re-keyed with a DIY kit.

if you call a locksmith and find out how much for a visit to change both. Then figure out if you think you could change the whole thing yourself. some folks just change the deadbolt.

It will probably be more cost effective to replace it.
