By profession, Laura Bush is a school librarian right? And George W. Bush is stupid. Not only does he not read, he has positive contempt for people who do read. He really hates people who write their own books as well as read others.
How can she live with that kind of man? I could never live with some one who had such a bitter contempt for my hearts delight.
What do you all think? What sort of bitterness does she choke back each day? Or did she become a librarian not out of a respect for the written word and a desire to help others find joy in it but because at one time it was the path of least resistance and she’s now just as glad to be done with it?

Yeah I have often wondered whether she really loves him or just tolerates him. She seems to have a well constructed image but I can't imagine the reality.
p.s. guys often marry women like their moms, so probably she is mostly interested in power and shares the general values of the bush clan.

What do I think? I think that if anyone is the idiot here, it's YOU! Bush is stupid yet he has an MBA from Harvard. OK. He has contempt for people who read or who writes their own books. Did you READ that when you wrote it and it didn't sound totally ridiculous then? That's just pitifully stupid with a capital "S." I really dont know how she ended up a librarian or ended up with George. I dont know if he reads much or not and I dont think you do either. If it is the way you think though all I would think is that women love the badboy type. Thats the reason I tried to be a liberal for awhile. It was the worst three days of my entire life.

To be honest, BOOsh isn't stupid, but he isn't the most intelligent man on Earth neither. I don't recall him ever saying that he hated reading, but I do remember something that quoted him as saying that he didn't read the newspapers.
The contempt isn't for people that read, but for the intellectuals. Much like Hitler; BOOsh knows that intellectuals take the time to research History and Law and would be best positioned to point out all of his obvious misdeeds.
Intellectuals tend to oppose Dictators like BOOsh, as well as their wars of aggression. Look at the many quotes by Albert Einstein, Ernest Hemingway, Benjamin Franklin and many others. Those were the types of people that Hitler so feared that he tortured and killed them in Concentration Camps with the rest of his "threats". Like Hitler, BOOsh is going down a similar path, but now it is more character assassination of Intellectuals than anything else.
To be honest, I honestly believe that Laura is blind to the truth about her husband. Afterall, would you like to admit to yourself that you've married and had children with the worst and most powerful dictator since Emperor Nero of Rome?

I think they got married because they love each other. I hate blood and guts and nasty bodily functions, but my husband is a doctor, do I hate him for that? Does he resent me for my dislike for the aspect of his job? No. I love him as a person and little things like our profession or "reading" habits are a null point. This has got to be the stupidest question I've ever read. It sounds like you just wanted to bash the president under a guise of a question. Lame!

Bush doesn't hate everyone who reads or writes. He just hates anyone who reads or writes about perspectives he doesn't share, as well as those that use big words (he gets lost after 3 syllables). That is why, as he said himself "Books are Laura's thing."
I'm sure he would read a lot more newspapers if they were written at the 5th grade level.
