Run some vinegar and baking soda through it. Fill the soap dispenser with baking soda and put about a cup of vinegar in the bottom. Run it through a cycle and it will eliminate any build up on the walls and eliminates odors. You might also want to check the filter at the bottom. Mine collects food particles which begin to smell like rotting food over time.

There is actually a product in the market that is made just for this problem. I believe it is made by Mr. Clean. I've recently seen the comercial, however I have not used the product myself. It's worth trying though. I usually use bleach. You don't need a whole bunch though. You can either manually wash it out with bleach and a rag or try running it with bleach in it and no dishes. It all depends on how filthy it is.

Metal or plastic ?
2nd - use any cleaning product that is safe for liner, screens, drainage hoses etc.

I use a spray bottle to spray all surfaces with a bleach mixture then run the washer thru the rinse cycle

look at the hose under the sink. does it have a rise in the middle? if you have a disposal and that hose doesn't have a high spot in it then some mashed garbage can get in the DW. when you open it to fill it and run it is there any water on the bottom? there shouldn't be unless the GD's hose is wrong.
