He stop being your boyfriend when you two moved in together. So just tell them this is your man. You don't have to explain your relationship or what you call him to anyone.

Hello there! I am 44 yrs old. When a Man see's his (Girlfriend) just as His Girlfriend, there seems like there's a finality about the (Relationship) in general. Eight years is a very long & trying time in a relationship that has not moved towards (Marriage) Usually the (Man) will ask a (Woman) to Marry him. Life is so very short & very sweet too! The best thing to do is to,have a sit down w/your Man & explain to Him your (Feelings about the status of your relationship w/Him, explain to Him that you want this relationship to go further then where it stands at the momment. Maybe your Man just (Simply does not know how to POP the Question) Usually Couples have (Made up Names 4 each other, & some couples are just happy to be in a (Relationship) & never go beyound something that could prevent them from ever liking each other. Maybe you can create an atmosphere 4 you & your Man to have a (Romantic Dinner) & POP the question yourself. I hope that I am not sounding (Heartless) or something- I realize that this is a very important time in your Life & that you are willing to take those extra steps to be happy w/your Man. Like I said earlier- Life is too short.! I don't know who your Man is But,any Guy in this (World) would be (Very Honored) just to have an opportunity W/a Woman that Feels as much 4 Her Man than you do. If you think that your Man is worth Popping that question for -than stop wasteing your time & get buisy & ask your Man to Marry you.. Good Luck to the both of you!!! rumeoui.

If you have been together a good long while, it may be easier to just call him your "husband." At least people will understand that this is a permanent "gig" and that you are not open to new relationships at this point in your life. Many States have common-law marriage, under which rules your relationship may technically qualify; so, it isn't like you are lying to people. Most casual acquaintances just want to know if you have a partner and who your partner is. What you choose to call him doesn't matter a whole lot, as long as it is respectful. You could introduce him as your partner also. Another idea would be to introduce him as "the love of my life," or, "my soulmate." This is more personal than just introducing him as your partner, roomate, boyfriend, etc. and will reassure him that he does indeed hold a special place in your heart, and will send a message to others that this is your man.

A friend of mine has the same problem. We've always debated what to call him. She finally came up with a solution, she refers to him as her "Spouse Shaped Object." You should see the looks she gets!

The penpal I wrote to while he was in prison.
My apartment complex's handyman
My butler, chauffer and "companion"
honestly...just say 'boyfriend' or "my friend", "my close friend"
what does it matter what anyone else thinks. You're in love right? Or at least in lust. In any case...you're comfort is all that matters
