Stephen Lewis has been speaking at the AIDS Conference in Toronto calling on the Canadian Government to step up and fulfill promises made by the Cretien government.

In Africa, especially Sub-Saharan Africa, there are more than 33 million people infected with HIV, more than the entire population of Canada.

This disease is causing unprecidented destruction of social systems and leaving an entire generation orphaned and with no means to gain education and health care.

The war in Iraq is costing more than $500 billion and to get treatment to all HIV victims in Africa, the continent would require only $10 billion.

that can afford a war should.

The local govts would skim far more than 10 bil. So you are already in the red. The world is a big place and you cant save it all from everything. Aids may be your trigger but genocide is mine because it is intentional, man v man, and in some cases preventable. Caring and helping is good but actually helping a few is far preferable than failing to help the many.

10 billion wouldn't treat the whole continent adequately, that is just for condoms and preventive measures i'd imagine, the actual aids drugs are insanely expensive (and don't work that well.).
