Godavari is considered as Vriddha (Old) Ganga or Dakshin(South)Ganga. So because the Ganga is the largest river of India, & Godavari is the largest one of S.India.
Krishna is the second largest in S.India.
S.India refers toi Peninsular India only. As penionsular India is Deccan or Dakhin or Dakshin meaning South India.
