Will there be duty payable on a toy imported from Spain to UK? If so would it have got held up at customs while they wait for payment? how do I find out?

I think it depends what they mark the package down as on the customs label (if it requires one in the first place!).

I think gifts are non customs chargeable but all other products over a certain value are chargeable I am not sure of the value but I think it is around £40. I ordered something from the US and it was just over that including the postage which is what they'd written the value down as on the customs label (I wish they hadn't because if they hadn't included the postage it would have been below the level!) and I basically got stitched for import tax and had to go collect it from the post office.

i had this problem with a parcel from america.
apparently they pick so many parcels to open, if yours is one of them and they decide you need to pay excess duty, then the post office / post man will collect it when he drops it off.
there will be the excess duty, the customs charge and then a charge for the post man to collect, [that alone cost me £8], all in all it cost me £32 on top of what i had paid for the parcel and the postage from the usa, it was half what i paid in the first place.

if you are unlucky and they pick yours then you will find out the amount when the postman delivers it.

If its spotted and it is worth more than £18 then you are liable to pay duty on it and also pay duty on any amount you paid for P&P too.

It will probably end up with Parcel force, they hold it until you pay VAT and handling charges. They will inform you when it arrives
