Connecticut has been a Democratic stronghold for a while now but with Leiberman splitting the Democractic vote, do you think the Repubican's smell blood and are happy with joy with a more than possible Republican takeover of Connecticut? This seems like a great opportunity for them.
From what I understand it was 51 to 48% Lamont vs. Leiberman with 40 something percent of the voters. Now you take divide the total votes by half in statewide primary with Republican's voting as well and you have 26% Lamont, 24% Leiberman, which still gives the Republican guy a big advantage. Thoughts?

I never liked Leiberman running with Gore, I think Leiberman was a contributor of Gore's downfall. As for why the choice of Leiberman, it's because he was as Republican as you can be in the Democratic party. Gore was trying to woo the Republican vote choosing Leiberman, but it didn't work out as planned.

The last statewide poll of all voters I saw had the republican guy at 9% and Lieberman/Lamont both in the mid 40's. I don't know why republicans would be whooping for joy over this. It's not like Lieberman is going to start voting in step with republicans now. 90% of his voting record is towing the democratic line. I don't see that changing just because he lost the primary. Plus you aren't counting the fact that all democrats didn't vote, or the fact that most voters in Conn. are registered unaffiliated, or independent.
I think Lieberman losing the primary is an example of people being fed up with the status quo. Remember two other incumbents also lost their primary battles, GA Dem. Mckinney and MI Rep. Joe Schwarz.
And I don't know why people are making a big deal about Lieberman being a vice presidential candidate in '00. Where's Jack Kemp been? Dan Quayle? Geraldine Ferraro? Nobody cares about former vice presidential nominees. Total non-issue.

Well the democrats are not thats for sure. Thats a disgrace when just 4 years earlier a man who almost became Vice President changes parties. Especially becasue Lieberman could be a possibly 08' canidate for president. Thats a huge loss for the democrats and one they had coming for becoming more and more liberal. All those people who are on the edge between democrat or republican are going to go republican now becasue of the ultra-liberalism in the democratic party. And the proof is in Lieberman!

Connecticut has voted an Independent in as Governor , so although the Republicans can breath a little easier it wouldn't be a shock for Lieberman to win. But it sure is ticking off the Democrates !!!!!!!

He become with the Democratic social gathering. Now he's self sufficient. Do you shop in ideas at the same time as he ran the race adversarial to Ned Lamont? Who did Lieberman ask for help to win some Connecticut voters? and is smearing him now? None except Obama. i love John McCain, yet guy....Joe Lieberman is a scumbag.

I think the (R) candidate in Conn is a rino and if Liberman goes indy, he is going to grab half the Dem vote and a bunch of the Rep vote. I don't think we have heard the last of Joe! I hope not anyway. He is one of the good guys who doesn't bow to party affiliation-he does what's right. If we had more people like that on both sides, we'd have a stronger nation.

The Republicans better view this as a statement of how the voters feel about the war in Iraq. Lieberman's downfall was his support of the war.

The republican candidate isn't strong and Lieberman will pick up a significant percentage of moderate republicans. It's not as cut and dried as you imply.
