Well the beach near us constantly has a problem with raw sewage. There are stinging jellyfish, stepping on someone's cigarette butt, undertow, & cutting feet on broken glass hazards. A private swimming pool is very different then a public beach. As a parent it is much easier for me to watch my kids swimming in the pool then in the ocean.

Fresh water vs. Salt water

Relaxation vs. Waves

Rubber Raft vs. Sharks

Privacy vs. Out in the open

I'd have a pool even if I lived ON the beach.

Private pool's are much cleaner than the beach, provide privacy, and allow you to swim whenever you please.
Plus, the beaches near me are in parks which have you pay to get in, so cost could be another issue.

Sometimes people want privacy, or they don't want to worry about the choppy ness that sometimes comes with the beach. A pool you can go into anytime you want while a beach may be only durring like day hours.

Two times nine-and-a-half minutes traveling time per swim. In the long run, it adds up.

Not to mention the privacy...
