If your laptop has a built in ethernet card most hotels offer broadband access to guests, sometimes it's free, sometimes they charge, depends on the hotel. If you don't have a built in ethernet you will need to purchase a cardbus ethernet card to plug into the card slot on your laptop. To identify if you have a built-in ethernet jsut look for a port that resembles and oversized phone plug on your laptop.

If your laptop does not have a wireless card built in, you will need to buy a wireless adapter like:

On sale I have seen some wireless adapters for about $20
