the best way to clean your windshield is to go to the auto store and ask them for winpast. Its a thick white past kind of like a wax, you rub it into you windshield and then spray it off with lots of water, I reccomend that you use RainX after your finished.

I don't have much luck without taking my truck to be detailed!

Glass Cleaners

Just as in selecting car shampoo and wax, no two car enthusiasts can agree on the ultimate glass cleaner. Some people like ammonia cleaners, others swear by TSP, while the purists will use nothing but clear water.

Whatever you use, the principles are the same: clean, dry and polish. I highly discourage the use of ammonia-based glass cleaners on your car. While ammonia is a great glass cleaner for the home, ammonia is harmful to many car surfaces including vinyl, rubber, and leather. More importantly, the use of ammonia inside your car is harmful to your health. As a substitute to ammonia, I prefer citric acid, alcohol, or mechanical cleaners.

Glass cleaners in a spray bottle work fine. The only problem is over spray on the dash and upholstery. As it is difficult to direct the spray of glass cleaners, you will have the best luck spraying one side of a clean towel, wiping the glass, and they drying with the other side of the towel. Many professional detailers use plain water for wiping and cleaning the windows and dry the glass with newspaper. Unlike paper towels and most cotton towels, newspaper does not leave behind lint and the ink acts as a glass polish. The only draw back to this method is the newsprint ink on your hands when you’re done. Be sure to wash your hands before touching your upholstery.

Any glass cleaner and scrub with newspaper. I used to detail cars and newspaper is the best thing to use to scrub off grime and not leave streaks.
The glass cleaner doesn't matter to much...some are a little better than others but not by much....like any foam spray cleaner in an aerosol can is usually real good.

there's a glass cleaner called "glass cleaner." how original. but it's a spray can that's blue and has clouds all over it. this one works REALLY well - better than windex, in fact, and it also takes off bird poop and other stains on your car (ANYWHERE on the outside of your car). just spray some on the stain, wait a few seconds, and then wipe it off. this thing works miracles.

I know you want something more than regular household cleaners, but my personal favorite is windex and one of those green scrubbers by scotchbrite. It will take off anything from tree sap to oil to dried-on bug guts. However, it will not remove asphalt. Best of luck to you! :)

I would have to agree, vinegar & newspaper probably work the best, or you could use windex & newspaper, but I think windex causes glass to cloud..just my opinion...I would try the vinegar & newspaper.
