Although I uninstalled the previous ATI Catalyst control centre and Drivers and rebooted my XP pro 64 machine prior to installing the Nvidia XFX garphic card. I find I have a conflict that the ATI catalyst software is still on my machine! It will not uninstall from file or via add remove! Is there a way forward without reformatting my drives? Please enlighten me..

Remove Programs from the Add/Remove Programs List
Windows compatible programs must include an uninstall program, sometimes though the program may get removed but the entry in Add/Remove programs does not. This tweak allows you to manually remove any orphaned entries.
Open your registry and find the key below. Under this key will be a number of sub-keys, each representing an installed application.
To see which application each sub-key represents, open it and there should be at least two values 'DisplayName' and 'UninstallString'. 'DisplayName' is the name used in the Add/Remove programs list and 'UninstallString' is the program used to uninstall the application.
To remove a program from the list you can simply highlight and delete the sub-key representing that program.
Registry Settings
System Key: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall]
Value Name: DisplayName, UninstallString
Follow these steps you will remove your ATI Cat/something else.

did you use the ati software removal utility,as if you didnt this could be the reason for the incomplete uninstalation, but as llong as you didnt leave the actual ati driver on the machine i cant see how there can be a conflict
by the sounds of it you may have a security program that has not let the uninstaller erase all of the ati-software,but it still baffles me why the ati-removal utility didnt delete all the ati software
this is where i am going to say,its best to do a complete windows re-install as graphics are probally the most important device ,behind the cpu and hard drive,so a format will clear all stray driver files and will let your card run alot smoother, make sure you use the latest forceware from nvidia(http://www.nvidia.com/content/drivers/drivers.asp),as this will fix any patches if this applies to your card and you should never use the pack software as these can be 3 or 4 years old in some cases
good luck

You did say your using WIN XP 64. If so make sure the new drivers you are using are in fact 64 bit drivers. Nvidia sill isn't shipping with the card any 64 bit drivers so if you are using the CD that came with it you are going to have problems. Now uninstalling ATI drivers usually isn't a problem unless the MB you are using has built on ATI chip sets... If so U can't uninstall them without the system becoming unstable.

They should not be installed, have you tried both the ati driver cleaner and the 3rd party one available somewhere on the web
also delete your temp files and disable system restore.
Have you removed both the drivers and the control centre software?

This is a known problem with virtual devices that are installed with install shield rather than using the plug and play ID. To uninstall this you will need the ATI software available at this link:

It should be located under ATI in Add/remove programs and you shouldbe able to remove it. If you can't remove it just add the new graphics card software (ATI's won't interfere).

if your pc show screen works on the computer plugged in then you actually possibly have a difficulty with the computer show screen itself. it ought to correctly be the backlight burnt out or the chip the backlight plugs into. turn on the computer and seem on the show screen from diverse perspectives and angles and be conscious in case you will discover photo in in the back of all that black. Dimmer lights helps to work out that still. in spite of everything that is the computer show screen maximum possibly.

If you can't get rid of it the best quick fix is to disable the driver in it's properties.
It shouldn't interfere from then on.
