Hobbiest. Everyone critiques everything, I don't know of a single person who doesn't form an opinion about books, movie, tv, food, style, etc... although they are not experts at all.

How about "maven"? It's a self-appointed expert (may in fact be an expert, but may just be self-appointed). As in William Safire's "The Language Maven Strikes Again" (ok, so he _is_ an expert!).

Personally, I like 'dilettante' and 'dabbler' the best for this definition.
