As a Vet, it pisses me off when Americans are unpatriotic. Its that crap that , fuels the animosity of the Jihadist. However, I take issue with a few of your statements. 1961, it was JFK that indecisively sent the first troops to Vietnam. LBJ increased personnel and bombings (deforestation-Agent Orange ran the war from the White House). Oh, and Nixon(a viable alternative to Goldwater) was compelled to stop the war due to chaos in the streets(WaterGate)and acts of civil unrest around the entire U.S of .A. Rumor has it, he was taking advice from the numerous busts (former Presidents) in the White House. Who cares, if we haven't learned from History--we repeat It! Deposing a dip-stick for perceived--expansionism. The American Empire, this a a theory( conspiracy) that, the entire Iraq War was conceived to expand Corporate interest. That certain companys are profitting disproportionately and the presence of the "infidel" in the land of the " Prophet" is colonialism--that Iraq--post Saddam would be America's "Oil Puppet"---hence the Imperialism ploy. That this, ill-conceived use of the military and the loss of American Men & Women is Expansionism ?! Give me a break! Bush Sr., refused to get in that mess in the `90's Deposing Saddam has unleased Jihadism(in Afghanistan & Iraq) and the real threat to our existence lies in the fact that, we have no mandatory CONSPRIPTION!! You see, the Gangsta Problems/ the I'm Overweight/ the Thugg'in the Suburbs problems would'nt exist if that A** could be in Bagdad in 100 days. THE DRAFT LOTTERY--yeah Baby! National Duty( a loss concept) ! Need to get all the Hard Core Max cons(outta Prison) loaded on a C-130, Drop em (Anbar province-at night) with arms and say--Make it or Break it! Protestors can complain with more depth and humanity--when their son or brother has been DRAFTED. The PS2 & # 3-Generation gotta fight the Wars Now! People with no grasp of Honor or History--burn the RED-WHITE & Blue! I Can't tolerate people that disecrate the flag! I avoid those scences, my passion runs deep. Thanx for STAND'in UP For the Monument ! No one should trash our National Treasures! Man are you aware ! Destroying National Monuments--is an affront to Civilization---check this---when Bagdad was in the AWe stage of " Shock and Awe" the Natives got restless and trashed the Museum Of Natural History. Iraq is Ancient Babylon. A land conquered by Aleaxander. Great Histrocial Treasures Lost ( Black Market)! Man, these people have been fighting each other and any perceived " Christian" occupation to "rid the land the infidel" for centuries! People are attacking Vets, because they are comfortable (affluent) and getting fat. But the intestinal fortitude to fight a protracted war---does not exist. Will the young adults volunteer en-mass? I think not. As a Veteran, I THANK YOU FOR SUPPORT'in VETS !!!!!!!!!!!!

No. Because those are monuments dedicated to American accomplishments, and the victories of liberty.
I hope that some day, in the future when humanity has finally outgrown its childish need to settle everything through violence, the common consensus is that wars were a mistake. And that collectively, we'll all breath a sigh of relief that we've outgrown that madness. But that's so far away it's not worth contemplating.
And memorials to the victories don't celebrate the violence. They celebrate the courage of those who fought to defend the values that this country holds dead. And it's those values that liberals cherish, and refuse to see trampled by those who happen to disagree with them.

My father fought at "Iwo Jima"(get it right) and was trained by the marines as a draftsman but could never get a job in the field because most engineering firms were run by white racist conservatives. As a matter of fact I used to be a draftsman and went to work for Sun Oil Co. in Philadelphia in 1981 and would you believe I was the first black they ever had in their engineering dept. and suffered more racist indignation than you can imagine. pushed me pretty far to the left, so far that I can't understand why a black man would pick up arms and fight for a country were there in no equity.

Is the political divide in the US this bad that this question would even be asked. I understand Liberals and Conservatives don't much care for each other, but do you really hate each other this much?? Sorry, I know it doesn't answer your question, but as someone from outside the US it just struck me as so incredibly virulent.

If they had their way, yes. But as long as there are some of us old Marines around, they'll have to come through us.
