Haven't you heard of Points? This beta site is set up as a game, you have a leader board. At least some of the questions are not "Why is the sky blue?". You don't even have to Google for that matter, there is a search engine built into the answer page called, by coincidence, Yahoo! Search. Just cut and paste.

I disagree.
This is a new kind of service. It is different than Google: Google is just a big indexer. Answers gives common sense and perspective, and things that are not in Google.
Sure, people can go to Google and often find the answer to their question. But the point here, is they don't have to wade through all the google results, they get human-augmented answers, even with votes on which is best.
Now, if we can just figure out how to get rid of the personal ads...

No because some people prefer and answer of opinion and not text book answers from a website or putting in something and getting a million response for something that could be a whole lot simpler.

I agree with the perspective of rjmail.
I would, however, take it a stage further. By researching questions asked by others there is the possibility to raise one's own knowledge and awareness on a broader base.
