It is a mistake of US because US is milking pakis and Musharraf. Musharraf is blackmailing US to fill his pockets and fooling CIA. If US stop giving aid to pakis and there is worldwide ban over pakis, probably it would kneel the terrorists mind there down.

I definately think that there are tons of people in Pakistan that would rather see the United States destroyed before lifting a finger to help us, But this does not mean the country as a whole is out to destroy us. I think they can be an ally as long as the government of a country is actively trying to help us squash terrorism. This being said I think they could do a whole lot more personally. If you want to take into account that there are people from the country wanting to destroy us then we also would not be a country that could be considered an "ally" on the war on terrorism. Sadly there are many "americans" ( I use this term very loosely for these people) that would love to see our great country fall. I am not sure if it is out of pity for less fortunate countries or what but these people seem to hate our country and everything we stand for. It is because of our beliefs and our freedom that has made us great and the worlds only true remaining super power. Without the U.S. peoples generosity many of these countries would starve out of exisistence, yet they still hate us.

As for getting out of Iraq I say no, I do say things need to change, but leaving the country would be a terrible mistake. We as a whole have become too "soft". We try to save as many innocent lives as possible for enemies yet by doing this we endanger our own soldiers. If we went back to the days of WWII we would just go bomb the heck out of em and then go in there and look for surviors and kill any threat that appears. Kill em all and let God sort them out. I am not sure this is the perfect solution, but fighting an enemy such as terrorist that use innocent people as shields this may be the only way.

Musharraf is in power because he is backed by the Pakistani army. He's walking a tightrope between us and the Wahhabi extremists in his own country, many of which are in that army. He cannot appear to be "in our pocket", or his government will be overthrown.
In any case, the official Pakistani government AND army have little or no control over what goes on in the western part of the country. The warlords of the Waziristan region, most of whom are terrorist sympathizers, provide refuge and support for al-qaeda and the others, and there's not much Musharraf can do about it even if he wanted to. He doesn't have the resources to assert control over that area, and half his army would probably turn on him if he tried.
