No. I think gift registries are tacky and eliminate a huge portion of the gift-giving process. They reduce the overall intimacy, and I have not nor will not participate in them. I prefer to select what I give as a gift, and I understand the argument that a gift registry enables me to get the person something they actually want, but I enjoy shopping for the person and picking out what I think they will want. Otherwise, I feel like I am bribing the receiver to stamp me as "good etiquette minded". Is anyone else as opposed to gift registries as me?

once you've a laptop and obviously you do, purely layout and print your own invites on card inventory, yet in case you do not opt to target this, then visit an place of work provide shop like Staples or place of work Depot or inspite of is round your way. do not do a registry, it is for weddings and such issues...it is only a infant's first birthday for goodness sakes. do not supply him a scrapbook, yet make him one through the years and delivers it to him at the same time as he's older. Get him presents now of toys and issues he can play with and study with now. some clothing too if he needs any. perhaps commence him a economic company account and positioned some earnings each and each month for his college in case you want...that variety of component.

I was swaying between yes and no on birthdays and Christmas, but I don't think there's anything wrong with it, as long as you don't "volunteer" the list as though you're saying "buy me something, and oh, get it from here".
It would be great for me if my husband and kids (grown) would do that for me... have lists prepared for me to use. It is so difficult to buy for some people, and you certainly don't want to get something they'll hate, or 'sort of' force them to lie to you and say they like something they don't.
So, keep an updated "running" list throughout the year, adding, deleting, updating as your needs (and tastes) change. Then, if a relative or friend asks you "what do you want for (your birthday/ Christmas/etc.)", you can respond with, "well, if you wouldn't mind me giving you a list of a few items...." However, if you aren't asked directly what you want, need, or would like, I wouldn't mention it. Take your chances on the gifts, and be as polite as you can in response to those gifts.
As far as weddings, baby showers, bridal showers, etc. By all means, YES!!! That's exactly what they're for!

Why should I have to go to all the trouble of using a registry and picking out gifs? Why should I put my friends and family through all the trouble of actually finding the stuff? Just give me cash!

I am a huge fan of thethingsiwant.com - it does exactly that.
Most of the people in my circle of friends either appreciate or don't object to the idea of having a year-round registry. I love it, because even if I am not in a position to get them something off the list itself, I can use their wish list to get a good idea of what they would enjoy, and then go find something related that I *can* give them. And I have learned some fascinating things about my friends just by perusing their wish lists - I never would have guessed one of them was that much into anime! =)

What kind of an idiot would not?? I say birthday gifts, weddings and christmass gifts should be sent in registry or else someone else would get his/her nasty hands on them.

For wedding and babies, okay. For birthdays and Xmas, that's the ultimate of tacky and displays and utter lack of class.
