The truth of the matter is that in the 50's, I remember the Civil Defense siren going off every Saturday at noon.

There were defense shelters in every community. If it happened while I was in school, we had to crawl under our desks. But at least our local officials seemed to 'care' and had a place for us to go in the event we were attacked.

In the 60's, our colleges were infiltrated with Liberals and liberal professors who encouraged us to 'turn on and drop out'.

In the 70's there were armed National Guardsmen patrolling the streets of places like Chicago and Detroit to quell rioting.

Things were not good.

Do Americans care? I think they're in complete denial that our government might be lying to us. The thought is too frightening to bear for most.

I had a huge problem with it, but I kept asking questions because I wouldn't accept "Nonsense." as an answer.

Why haven't these world-wide drills been announced by our so-called 'journalists'? Why hasn't our government told us about these drills?

They've been taking place all over the world since at least July '06 and the only thing most people ever hear is that our Terrorist Alert level is at Orange or Red.

Let's face it, this is the beginning of 'Order out of Chaos' chant from our leaders. Create chaos and then look to our government for answer to our safety and security. Their response will be to take away more of our freedoms and provide us with a police state.

Everything was good in the 50s and 60s? Were u alive then? When J Edgar Hoover ran the FBI and you had McCarthy tracking anyone even suspected of communism, I think the government was in way more control. How has the "new government" "taken over?" Last I checked, I still have my civil liberties. How about you? Are you lovcked up in Guantanamo Bay or something?

Is your question related to the ever expanding size of government, or some nostalgic view of the past that there was no problem the good old USA couldn't handle? Government is to big, and the past was not always as great as people make it sound.

what do you mean " new government" And how were things good in the fifties and sixties. Things are not always what they seem. In the fifties, things were alot safer, and you didn't have the crime you have now. But minorities discimination was still present. In the sixties, the civil rights movement came about, but we also saw sex abuse, drug abuse grow. I would prefer the forties. It was a terrible time with the war but I think it was when our country was at its best.

People would care, of course. But the bottom line is that people are sheep. They will not take a stand and express their concerns until someone else does first.

I think too many people these days are blinded thinking that it's for "security." People don't seem to care that their rights are being taken away because of the supoosed security it brings. People need to wake up!

I think we need to be careful about what happens.

Have you read George Orwell's 1984? Do you feel we are moving towards that society? I do.

I don't think many have noticed because they're so wrapped up in their own petty issues.
