2. The complexity of structure and function varies widely across the animal kingdom. Despite this variation, animals exhibit common processes. These include the following.
. transport of materials
. response to stimuli
. gas exchange
. locomotion
(a) Choose two of the processes above and for each, describe the relevant structures and how they function to accomplish the process in the following phyla.
Cnidaria (e.g., hydra, jellyfish)
Annelida (e.g., earthworm)
Chordata (e.g., mouse)
(b) Explain the adaptive (evolutionary) value(s) of the structural examples you described in part a.

First you are to write about the systems you chose in part A. Let's say you choose the earthworm and the mouse. Write about how each transports materials throughout the body, senses and responds to stimuli, manages the gas exchanges, and moves. Once you have the list for each organism you are ready for part B.

Part B is asking you to explain how each of the parts from A has allowed the organism to survive and prosper. By evolutionary values they mean how did the development of that system give the organism an advantage over the other organism who do not have such an advanced system.

Always remember.Evolution leads to an easier and quality living. For example, the hydra has a very simple mechanism 4 respiring i.e. it's 'easier.'but is not at all efficient i.e. not of a required quality. On the other hand, in the mouse, the respiration is still simple in a different way though.Yet, it has a 60% efficiency as compared 2 the 20% in hydra...
