Yes, Cuban cigars are illegal to import or to possess in the United States. Way back in the '60s when Fidel Castro overthrew the government and assumed power (then made friends with the former Soviet Union) the U.S. imposed a trade embargo on all Cuban goods. Two years ago, President Bush re-affirmed the embargo and even made it more strict. The only people who are allowed to import anything from Cuba are Cuban nationals, and the only things they're allowed to import or bring into the country are Cuban newspapers and magazines.

Because ever since the Cuban missle crisis days, the US has extended an embargo on Cuban imports, which means anything made in Cuba, including Cigars is prohibited within the US...sucks about the Cigars, they're pretty good....

Cuban Cigars are illegal because of a trade embargo that we have because of Castro. Last week it started to look like we may open relations wih Cuba again but that bearded old commie seems to be alright now. Honduran cigars are just as good as Cubans and legal to buy.

Yes, when President Kennedy signed the economic embargo of Cuba it made all trade with the island illegal. Now, if you have pre-embargo goods you're fine but anything that would have to be smuggled in now is considered contraband.
There is a rumor that JFK sent out one of his advisors one night to buy at least1000 cuban cigars, the advisor came back with 1300 and the next day Kennedy signed the embargo.

Cuban cigars are illegal in the US because the US has a 40-year-old trade embargo against Cuba. In fact, even travelling to cuba is illegal in most cases.
In fact, you can't even go to another country and buy Cuban cigars to bring them into the US, although you CAN bring them back if you went to Cuba for a licensed visit (i.e. taking medical supplies or something)

Yes, real CUBAN cigars are illegal here in the states. I believe that it has something to do with our relations with Cuba, however that will hopefully change soon because Fidel Castro's health is supposedly declining

most cuban cigars are illegal to import to the u.s. since the embargo following castro's alignment with the soviet union in the 60's known as the cuban missle crisis. however, you can purchase them in nearby places such as bermuda. there are legal cubans available in the u.s. that have been brought back lawfully or made from real cuban tobacco that had been stored in climate-controlled warehouses since before the embargo and subsequently made into cigars.

It is true, and it's for the same reason that Americans aren't supposed to travel to Cuba. Because it is a communist nation, America placed it under a trade embargo decades ago. While the embargo is active, Americans can neither buy nor sell goods from or to Cuba, and, in theory vice versa. It sucks. The best cigars in the world in our backyard, and we can't get our hands on them because they are communists. It's pretty stupid if you ask me. Check the site below for more info.
