Depeche Mode recently released a song called John the Revelator, but it isn't a cover version. It's an original, penned by Martin Gore.

Beck, John Cougar Mellencamp, Hugo Race, Lea Coryell, Son House and probably many others have covered the original blues song of the same title which was originally written by blues artist Blind Willie Johnson in 1930.

Taj Mahal, Sam Moore, Joe Morton, Sharon Riley & the Faith Chorale performed a cover version on the movie "Blues Brothers 2000" which features on the original soundtrack album. John Landis wrote additional lyrics for this version, and Son House is incorrectly stated as the writer.

Depeche Mode on their most recent album has a song called "John the Revelator" on it, I am not sure if it is a cover of the blues song though because I have not heard the blues song, just the Depeche Mode song.
