the insurance company has forwarded the computer equipment part of the claim to a company called National Vendor. They are attempting to replace my computer, which is fine. The problem is that I had a HP pavilion series and they want to replace it with a Dell Dimension 5150 series.

Does any one have any pros or cons about either Dell, the computer, the support or anything?

Or would you suggest they pay me the replacement value of the computer and purchase my own?

All and any help will be appreciated.

I like the suggestion about a dog and some sort of firearm. But I was on vacation, down south and none of those would have done me a bit of good. And why did neither neighbor on either side hear anything? The busted up windows and entertainment centers and no one heard any thing????

Dont forget to list all the software that was on it.
Because they stole the computer that it was licenced too you will need to replace all the software.

They will try to replace the computer first if you have replacement value in your policy. If they cannot find one they have to replace it with a simalar PC. If you are getting $ it will probally be what the other company finds the one that you had stolen for.

For example if you paid $1000 for a pc it gets stolen but you can find the same PC at walmart for $500 they will give you $500 to replace the PC with since it is still available. Where it gets expensive for insurance companies is replacing the software. Games like HL2 are only able to run on the computer that they were installed on. If you read the licence agreements 99% of all software is licenced for only the origional computer it is installed on.

If you know the specs of the computer you had stolen you are entitled to a simalar workstation. They wont pay for an upgrade unless your HP is nolonger available.

Dell is the way to go. I had a HP laptop, and now I have a Dell. I believe the Dell has better support, and it is more reliable. I would say go for it.
Sorry about the break-in! That is majorly lame!

I like dell, but it is just preference. I use them as servers at work and they run stable. I had to call tech support when we were setting them up and they pretty much answered it within the usual hour or two like every other tech support. If you were happy with HP then stick with it. It is all just preference.

I would go with the replacement value. A computer is personal and people utilize them differently. Buy something suited for you!

Have them reimburse you and you can purchase your own. Also I'd suggest having a dog or a gun to prevent future incidents. I myself have both dog and two guns. You can never be too safe living in Los Angeles.
