Prime Minister Tony Blair, vacationing in the Caribbean, briefed
President Bush on the situation overnight, Blair's office said. There was no immediate public reaction from the White House. Bush is spending a few days at his ranch near Crawford, Texas.
It is the first time the red alert level in the Homeland Security warning system has been invoked, although there have been brief periods in the past when the orange level was applied. Homeland Security defines the red alert as designating a "severe risk of terrorist attacks." I watched this situation unfold since 2 a.m. Eastern time and still no prez. Is this responsible leadership?

Do you really want him to be making the decisions right now. I wouldn't care if he never came back from Crawford.

He's doing his job. What is he supposed to be doing? Rushing to your house to hold your hand? The growing helplessness of this once mighty nation is sickening. If you want to be comforted, go to your mom's house or get a puppy. If you want to feel safe, get a gun before they are all banned, learn to use it, store some food just in case, keep your eyes open (especially when flying) and realize that you, and only you, are responsible for your own safety. The only jet that failed to reach it's target on 9/11 was stopped by passengers, not the prez. Deal with it instead of desperately searching for a way to bash Bush. It's getting old.

Trust me, shooting from the hip is a poor way to hit a target. Bush is on the job, even if not at the White House, and he will address the American public when it is appropriate. The terrorists were found and arrested in England by MI5, one of the best intelligence agencies in the world, and airport security in the U.S. and abroad were immediately tightened as much as it is practical to do so.

It is 12:15 here. He was on the radio about 5 minutes ago. He was in contact with Mr. Blair last week and knew about the imminence of this threat. He is trying to conduct the business of the office as best he can and cannot share with us everything that is going on. What we know - the terrorists know.

num1accent01 is effing right and bush should be doing SOMETHING about this. He should be addressing the nation, or having a cup of tea and crumpets with Blair to discuss this new situation: terrorists attempt blowing up airplanes. However if you recall, on the morning of Sept. 11, 2001, it took about 7 minutes for him to deal with the nation being under attack. I guess since this time it failed, he can still wait for a bit longer.

This is natural that people under capitalism and the Western power are and have been suffering from ages. Well, gone are the Soviet days when every person, man and women were equal. But ever since the USA came to the supreme power, the whole world, espcially the Islam world has been under threat. About George Bush, I never think wasting my time on capitalist pigs!!!!

Bush is in Green Bay, not Crawford. He just gave an extremely brief briefing.

My understanding from the BBC link is that our intelligence services were very much involved in cooperation with the British, so I suspect it was no surprise.

Bush's biggest domestic agenda right now is to open our borders. For the first time in his career, the terrorist card is NOT what he wants to play, right now.

Even when Bush is gone from the Oval Office, he is on top of everything. Don't you read or watch the news?

It was Clinton who shut down the country for BJ's.
