Yeah because those nations that engage in torture are soo respected around the world.

Setting aside the fact that it is illegal under international law and treaties the US has signed and the fact that it is sadistic and depraved, what purpose would it really serve?

Other than "they would do it to us if they had a chance" what reason is there? And keep in mind these people are terrorists, so I have this strange notion that the civilized nations of the world should (if they want to use those words without irony) should, you know, sorta not stoop to their level.

But let's say for arguments sake, the US started torturing every terrrorist it captured. And lets say for arguments sake that this didn't inflame Muslim opinion and radicalize one billion people on the planet. And let's just say for argument's sake that you could torture people without any legal or political implications (seeing as how those pesky Abu Ghraib photos kinda made a heck of a lot of people around the globe plain sick) Let's assume the United States can torture people without people thinking that a nation with a "Without Cruel or Unusual Punishment" line in a constitution that is supposed to be a shining beacon of hope for the world would be a nation of dangerous hypocrites.

The US captures people it says are terrorists. It tortures them. Probably a lot are. But not all. See there's this thing called the Fog of War. Sometimes innocent people just happen to be in the wrong place at the wrong time and if they accidently got caught up in a terrorist sweep in Iraq or wherever, the US would torture them. Torture an innocent man or woman. Perhaps even if Iraq slides into a total civil war and America got really desperate (although I pray to God not) a child.

Yeah, that's something I want to tell my children. Freedom!

Torture is inhumane and illogical for a number of reasons.

#1 If we torture terrorists such as what's been done in Abu Gharib or Guantanamo Bay, it will only embolden other terrorists to #1 CONTINUE THEIR ACTIONS,
#2 FIGHT TO THE DEATH
and #3 TORTURE AMERICAN POW's in revenge.

Its bad enough American POW's in Iraq and Afghanistan get captured but imagine that al queda and the insurgents started torturing American prisoners and videotaping the torture for the families back home?
They would use OUR TORTURE OF THEM as a justification.

After the Abu Gharib incident was reported to the media, almost every single captured American was tortured before being beheaded and the video's produced by the kidnappers claimed they were doing it in retaliation for AbuGharib.

#2 Torture is INHUMANE to both the torturer and the torturee.
Most arab people will be arrested whether or not they are terrorists simply because of profiling.
It is unfair and inhumane to the innocents captured and it is not fair punishment for the guilty.
AND...Who are we gonna get to torture the terrorist? Most of the soldiers America has are young kids around 18 - 27.
Would you want to take away your young family member's innocence by forcing them to torture prisoners?
Gouging out eyes and beating people with rubber hoses might feel good at first but eventually the horror of it forces sympathy and empathy in the torturer.

#3 Torture is also uneconomical.
How are you gonna torture them?
Electric shocks?
Rubber bats?
Vivisection with medical equiptment?

All that costs time and money. If your a US soldier torturing these people you expect to get paid to do the job. Our national debt is allready near 9 Trillion. Torture would add much more in time, equiptment and manhours.

Even in WW2, the Nazis recognized that shooting jews in the head was a waste of time, bullets and equiptment and caused Morale problems amongst German soldiers - that is why they developed gas chambers.

Terrorists have done enough to civilians, why ruin the life of the poor bastard that has to torture them as well? I think they should face the weight of their crimes in the courts of the land the committed a terrorist act in. I guess if I could make one exception I'd really like to see them publically executed. With so many victims of 911 it's important for their closier that they be able to see those held responsible punished and It's important that the neibors and friends of terrorists see what becomes of them, perhaps it will change their attitude about terrorism to see their hero die a failure rather than a martyr.

Well no matter where they are from god wil deal with them I wish there was a way to make them pay back for offering phony jjobs and ripping off peopel wjo are just trying to make an honest buck. The scams are worse than the Nigerian they ARE NOW DOINGTHIS TO GAIN MONEY TO FUND their TERRORISM. YThen us poor peeople pay the price. I did nit wire them any miney back and now they are pissed off at me. How ironic I was to wire the money to Jeremy stree in London(UK). I am so gald and I thank God that I did not do that. So spread the word and let peopel know that we have to be careful and live by IFD IT SOUNDS TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE IT IS.
Thank you for listening and please spread the word. Let us stop terrorism in our own country and quit being our own worst enemy. I share this as the FBI asked me to to try and get people aware even more.
