Folks here ought to pop over and support this kid in some way, but please, think hard about your answer. He's worked really hard, and is willing to give it up to support your rights. Wow!

I'm going to send this to a vote, just so more people can see it. Of course that means that more may tell him that God hates homos, but we'll just hope not.
And thanks so much for that "Letter to Louise"! I've never seen it, and, as a Christian, it provides some very good, Bible-based responses to some garbage.

I put the following in the post:

I'm gay.

Take the honor. You worked hard for it. Being an eagle scout will help you in the future.

Many Homosexuals join the military where it is don't ask don't tell. Many of them advance to high ranks. Many homosexuals are most likely eagle scouts and they will never let on.

Why should you not reap the benefits of something you have worked hard for? Why do you need to be a martyr?

If you truly believe that homosexuals should receive equal rights, then work with in the organization to change the policy. I'd also contact your legislators and let then know how you feel. Support a charity that is trying to get gay marriage passed or maybe your nearest gay/lesbian community center.

Thank you for your kind thoughts.

Wow I think that is amazing! I was a Scout but my troupe folded before I was 14 so I never got the chance to be an eagle scout. I think that the poster has real courage and deserves to be an eagle scout so I urged him to accept the rank and then speak his mind after he left the scout it will definitely have more weight coming from an eagle scout.

thanks for posting this here.

Thanks for posting it, and I frankly, in spite of being gay, don't want to see him give up on all his accomplishments just because he disagrees with the scouts no gays policy. He should be proud of all the work he's done -- and I would be proud of him to accept his ranking of Eagle Scout in spite of disagreements with the way the scouts are run.

It's great to see and support the world changing. I told him to take the honor and support us in ways that don't sacrifice his own fulfillment. Thanks!
