I am sure it is a mixture of things. It depends if you are over weight or if you are at a normal weight. If you are heavier it is better no only for the heatburn but for your general health. Heartburn can be contributed to several issues. Mine was do to anxiety. At the time I was lighter then what I am now. I am sure being extremly overweight can be that. Try cutting out acidic foods, such as tomato's or viniger based foods. Also, age, pregnancy etc can be other factors to heartburn. As other posts noted that Nexium works well, it did for me it takes about two weeks to fully kick in cause it doesn't only eleviate the symtoms it also helps to coat the lining in you esphogus and stomach. Note that if you are a smoker or a drinker it to will make heartburn worse. If it is to bothersome it is suggested that you seek a professionals advise. Another brand that is made is Prioloce (OTC) same makers of nexium but cheaper. Both work good, but don't take something with out seeking medical advise it could be other underlying causes!

Being overweight can indeed aggravate heartburn. Check out Lipski's book Digestive Wellness for a good approach to dealing with this problem.

Yes, losing weight will help. When you're overweight, it's generally from overeating. When your overweight your stomach is disdended as well which pushes food and stomach acids up into your esophagus, especially when laying down.

Could help, but you also must keep off food stuff that encourage that acid to build up in your stomach among other things-Sugar,Coffee, Chocolate, fatty foodstuff etc also, do visit with your physician for a one to one approach to your problem.

Yes, it will help. Also, do not eat (or drink much) before you go to bed (you should wait at least two hours after a meal).

Its the food that you are eating that is causing the heartburn. So pay attention to what you eat.
