Yes you are absolutely correct!!! I'm sick of mankind in general because they dont give a hoot about no one but themselves and this includes myself and i'm trying to make a difference. I hate professional sports because we make a bigger deal over a favorite athletic being accused of dopeing than all the children being slaughtered every day and forced to become soilders ( Africa) rape little girls, and rip their bodies open left to die, aborations at 8-9 months pregency in China, innocent people (cilivians) being killed daily , bribes taken to get favors at whatever cost to others, lieing when the truth is known all over , its sicking// Thanks you for your time and giving me this opporunity to express myself// Lord God Almighty forgive me in Jesus name Now i'm going to the bathroom and puke//

We shouldn't be ashamed of our species because everybody is not the same. Some of us are doing great things to make the world a better place to live. The people who should be ashamed are the ones that create pain and suffering for others, like the ones you mentioned.

We should be proud that we are hard working people. We should be proud that we have educational systems, institutions that are focused on creating solutions, professionals who serve us so that our lives may be easier.

We should also help people in need. I don't disagree with helping people in need but we have to take care of ourselves as well. Everybody is responsible for themselves. You can give but you cannot give your life to someone else. We should have a better give and take system.

Yes, the world needs us and yes there are a lot of problems but it is too huge of a burden to put on your self only. That's why we have organizations that create solutions. The United Nations is doing a lot to help people in need. Now days you see a lot of charity towards people in need. Even celebrities are doing humane things to help the world. Don't feel like all hope is gone already.

You should concentrate on your family and friends because they also need your support. You can' t expect to help others if you can't even help your friends and family. Changes come from within and then it goes without. Eventually your actions will determine where you stand.

There is nothing wrong in helping other people. It's just that some of us do it in different ways. And all the problems in the world cannot be burdened to just us. We have to unite and spread the message to all people who might not know.

You are on the right track but you can't lose control. Take care of yourself and when you have time help the people in need.

all this is caused by been attachment to material things that makes feel good for a moment. we do care how we feeel the next hour, next minute; as long we enjoy it this society is no longer a spiriritual seeking the good of being a human. we are a specie that doesn't respect, care, help, love the eprson next to you, and we are a society that is always seeking alcholic drink cigarretes and foreign stimulants to make you feeel better to continue living in a lie and our world leader are a bunch of crazy peopple who cannot dialog when there is a problem betwwen two nation. war is the only languages.

But maybe it would also be worthwhile to look and think at / about the other side of the coin so to speak, the good that goes unrecognised every single day by people who will never be recognised as Tom Cruise is, in the street or at the Mall, but the ones who give their timeand efforts to helping those in pain and grief, those who stop when somene is in need instead of walking by, the mother who loves her child the father holding the bycycle while the child is learning the people who support others when doing so is painful to them ...

at first glance, it is easy to say "yes"... we SUCK. but u know what.... the wonderful thing about human beings is someone like you. you see what's around you, and Have the ABILITY to come up with a question such as this. it's a moral issue... "should we be ashamed?" the fact that you do see things as shameful, Gives you the ability to Address it, and MAKE a CHANGE. already u have brought up a topic that makes people think, and realize that they Do put too much importance on Mel Gibson's drunken stupor verses attacks in Hezballah (which, i'm ashamed to say, i have no idea what's going on). again, we have the ability to feel bad about bad things, and try to change it! maybe we can't change the world right away, but we can change ourselves, slowly but surely, to try and do good. the best we can... and that's all anyone could ask. instead of focusing on tom cruise's baby, there are people who go out and volunteer at shelters, take care of people at hospitals, take food to senior citizens, be good friends and children and parents..there are positive things in this world we can also be Proud of as well as negative things we should be Ashamed of..but dwelling on the bad is not conducive to this life. we should forge ahead, focus on the Good, work hard to right wrongs. even if we do it one step at a time, one person at a time, i see something to be proud of. :) keep thinking, keep moving, keep getting better and positive, and healthy...and u will give others something to be proud of!

We should be anything but ashamed of our "species". We should be highly ashamed of our corrupted society but our species is something to be very proud of. We are the only known species in the entire universe that have the ability to think, to feel emotion to create and destroy. No other living thing is anything like us at all. We are the first species in our planet's history to take complete control over the planet and bend all other living things to our will. We are by far and away the most successful species to ever live on this planet.

YES, YES, YES, YES, YES, YES!

Other than to use capitalization {wink} I couldn't have said it any better. In this case, the message supersedes the grammar.

I especially gritted my teeth over the death of other people in the name of 'god' or for oil. I've been ranting about that for some time.

Incidentally, I agree with those who say, basically, that humans have things to be proud of, too. We do -- plenty. But why can't we have both? I *do* feel shame, at times, when I see the abject superficiality of so many of us.

ashamed of progress ? -- you can be but you are dwelling on the negative -- look at all the good things we have done -- diseases we have cured and the ability to explore our world and other worlds --- there will always be a certain percentage of " weak " in any species -- most other species kill them to get them out of the gene pool -- but we don't we try to help -- yes we make mistakes but that is part of the experience ---so either make a difference or if you are so ashamed -- make an exit

Do we ignore people in pain? Have most of us any idea how to solve the problems you mention? We shouldn't be ashamed of ourselves when there have been so many writers questioning the human condition, when there are so many people you meet who will do you a good turn.

Yes we should, but no one likes to admit it but everyone knows it even the rich people, but those rich people wouldnt be rich if it wasnt for the fans and people that are so interested in them, maybe we should stop being bored so easily, and then we wont need all these clothes, celebrities and movies and chocolate bars which exploit people in poor countries :)
