First of all, its great that you and your friend are close enough to help her out. Don't listen to those creeps saying otherwise. About pads, they suck, feel like diapers, and the tampon is really the only thing that lets you forget about your period for awhile, you can swim and everything normal. Make sure you have the smallest tampon available, plastic applicator, maybe lubricate it first with vaseline or something. Have her stand with one leg on a chair or the toilet and see if that works for a better position. Good luck!

First of all, I think that it's great that you and your friend are open enough with each other to talk about that and that she is asking you for help. Your friend needs to be relaxed so if you are in the room, that may not be helping. It might be best to put some KY jelly on the tip of the tampon. Having a foot propped up on something might help also. Give her a mirror and have her identify where it has to go also could help. Good luck!

Ok I'm a guy but I would also like to comment here. First, I think its good that you and your friend are open and trusting enough to help each other with such a problem. Its a really embarrassing situation for both of you obviously. Then, I think the problem might be her hymen blocking the way or, too big a tampon or, the involuntary contraction of the vaginal walls. So did you finally succeed?

Her mom should know this. When some people become tense, their vaginal muscles can spasm so nothing can get in. This may be happening, or she could be using tampons that are too large fro her body. Also if her vagina is not moist enough, it will be very painful trying to get a tampon in there. So, her mom should take her for a checkup to rule out physical issues.

Some people just can't wear them. I mean my sister is 18 and I guess if she wanted to she could were them but I mean she just doesn't feel right so when her period comes around she just doesn't swim, no matter what. And I don't think she is sick she just may not be using the right kind for her own personal feeling, she just needs to talk to the parent she trusts most like mom or her sis.

Some young girls just can't wear one. If her hymen has not broken, that could make it difficult. Also, some women have issues called "vaginismus" which is an involuntary tightening of the walls of the vagina. That's a little more uncommon...pretty rare actually. I place my vote on her just being young and small. It's ok. Don't force it. She probably just needs a few more years to grow.

"Tampons are not good anyway...cause TSS"
That is very rare and really only happens if you don't wear tampons correctly. Get your facts straight before you start giving people advice.
She should definatly have her mom help. Maybe try different positons to put it in? Maybe try a smaller tampon? Tampons with plastic applicators are sometimes easier for beginners.

Don't force it...........I would leave it for a few months and then try again. If she keeps trying to get one in she could damage the lining of the cervix.
Not every woman can use tampons. Be safe rather than sorry and wait a while.

I wasnt able to wear tampons till after I had sex. Not saying to go out and do this but I couldn't get it past my hymen.
IT's disgusting how many people are sickened by her trying to help her friend. Grow up, it's a body part and there is nothing sexual about this, it's part of life and I for one applaud her for being adult enough to help her friend

I agree with the response that tampons are not good anyway. I firmly believe that the only time they should be used is when swimming. They are not good for your body, especially a young lady who is not fully developed. Toxic Shock syndrome is a bacterial infection that is caused by having a tampon inside the body. That tampon collects bacteria and it can result in death.
