Free speech is having the right to speak. It does not mean having the right to be rude, abusive, racist or offensive. When people come here for just that reason, they need to be reported. I don't like all the questions I read. I just move on. But I do report those that are blatantly hate-filled and offensive. There is no reason for people to be that way. But the anonymity here makes this the perfect playground for cowards to abuse their right to free speech, then whine about the results of their childish actions. I can think of a few more things to suppress as well.

I'm not trying to start an argument, but could you look at it from Yahoo's point of view? How many parents would be delighted to sue Yahoo because their children saw adult content, or because their children started to repeat racist or hate speech. They need to cover their butts. I don't blame them one bit. It's a public forum, but there needs to be rules or it could turn into one big porn fest. If you feel the need to post things that you know are going to upset people there are other places to be. I know that some people go overboard in reporting but there has to be some line drawn. It's either that or make it an adult only site that will require proof of age.

Even though the terms of service seem strict, and you and your friends really aren't offended by whatever you might see on the net, remember that there are little kids on here, too.
Some of the stuff on the web they just don't need to see. We're trying to make Yahoo! Answers a place where everyone can gather for a Q&A forum without having to exclude the kids for their own protection.

Trying to suppress profanity, obscene content, or hatred for any group or individual in an environment that is available to many children is not an issue of free speech; it's a matter of common sense.
Likewise, it was made clear from the beginning that this is not a forum for personals ads, solicitation, or advertisement.
If someone sets up rules and you don't like them, you may exercise your rights to free speech in another forum. That's your right.

If ya don't like it, there are other places to go. There are minors here, that don't need to be exposed to even more nonsense than they already are.
Granted I think Yahoo! gets carried away sometimes and removes some things that I wouldn't consider issues, but overall I think the policy is a good one and I make use of it. It helps keep Answers a fun and safe online place for entertainment.

Oh boy, lets prove how free we are by violating rules set up to provide some people an alternative to hunting down and killing other posters. Get it idiot? You violate, then you whine that you were reprimanded for violating. Grow up.

"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances."
That's where we are promised free speech. Note that it does not say that private businesses or people are required to allow you to say whatever you want in their space.

Yes, actually, but I'm afraid you wouldn't be able to understand them. You see, if you don't understand why they even have them, then that just shows how little you understand freedom of speech.
