When Johnny Comes Marching Home Again
(circa 1860-1900, Civil War and Reconstruction Era -- popular music just before and during the Civil War concerned itself with political and military events. This song is credited to the Union Army bandmaster, Patrick S. Gilmore)

When Johnny comes marching home again,
Hurrah! Hurrah!
We'll give him a hearty welcome then
Hurrah! Hurrah!
The men will cheer and the boys will shout
The ladies they will all turn out
And we'll all feel gay,
When Johnny comes marching home.

The old church bell will peal with joy
Hurrah! Hurrah!
To welcome home our darling boy
Hurrah! Hurrah!
The village lads and lassies say
With roses they will strew the way,
And we'll all feel gay
When Johnny comes marching home.

Get ready for the Jubilee,
Hurrah! Hurrah!
We'll give the hero three times three,
Hurrah! Hurrah!
The laurel wreath is ready now
To place upon his loyal brow
And we'll all feel gay
When Johnny comes marching home.

I'm assuming that you don't remember this song from when it was "on the charts" - the song "When Johnny Comes Marching Home" was a patriotic American Civil War song, written by Patrick Sarsfield Gilmore in 1863. The tune is based on an old Irish folk song.

The first verse is:

When Johnny comes marching home again,
Hurrah! Hurrah!
We'll give him a hearty welcome then,
Hurrah! Hurrah!
The men will cheer, the boys will shout,
The ladies they will all turn out,
And we'll all feel gay
When Johnny comes marching home.

By the way, having a song stuck in your head isn't unusual - I've linked to an article that reports that women are much more likely than men to become annoyed, frustrated or irritated about having songs stuck in your head. There's even a name for this irritation - it's called an "earworm".

U2 sang a song like that -

"Bullet The Blue Sky" (live from Chicago)
In the howling wind comes a stinging rain
See 'em driving nails into souls on the tree of pain
From a firefly a red orange glow
I see the face of fear running scared in the valley below

The sky
The sky
Bullet the blue sky
Bullet the blue sky
Bullet the blue sky
Bullet the blue sky

In the locust wind comes a rattle and hum
Jacob wrestled the angel, the angel was overcome
You plant a demon seed, you raise a flower of fire
See them burning crosses, see the flames higher and higher

The sky
The sky
Bullet the blue sky
Bullet the blue sky
Bullet the blue sky
Bullet the blue sky

When Johnny comes marching home again
Hurrah, hurrah
When Johnny comes marching home
Home, home
What's a home
What's a home
Where's the home

Peace, please, I want it
Peace

These are the hands that built America
America

When Johnny comes marching home again
Hurrah, hurrah
When Johnny comes marching home again
Hurrah, hurrah
Will he be a man, I guess he was a boy
As long as he comes back to Illinois

When Johnny comes marching home again"
Hoorah, Hoorah
We'll give him a hearty welcome then
hoorah, hoorah

The men will cheer and the boys will shout
The ladies they will all turn out
And we'll all feel gay,
When Johnny comes marching home.

Edit: Actually I think it's more "hurrah", damn you R. Lee!
And I added finished the first part, 'cause I forgot it and had to google

It's called "When Johnny Comes Marching Home (Again)".
It was a Civil War song.
The lyrics are as follows:

When Johnny comes marching home again,
Hurrah! Hurrah!
We'll give him a hearty welcome then
Hurrah! Hurrah!
The men will cheer and the boys will shout
The ladies they will all turn out
And we'll all feel gay,
When Johnny comes marching home.

The old church bell will peal with joy
Hurrah! Hurrah!
To welcome home our darling boy
Hurrah! Hurrah!
The village lads and lassies say
With roses they will strew the way,
And we'll all feel gay
When Johnny comes marching home.

Get ready for the Jubilee,
Hurrah! Hurrah!
We'll give the hero three times three,
Hurrah! Hurrah!
The laurel wreath is ready now
To place upon his loyal brow
And we'll all feel gay
When Johnny comes marching home.

Let love and friendship on that day,
Hurrah, hurrah!
Their choicest treasures then display,
Hurrah, hurrah!
And let each one perform some part,
To fill with joy the warrior's heart,
And we'll all feel gay
When Johnny comes marching home
(You can repeat the last line until you want to fade out)
